FIMUCITÉ 12 – Film Scoring Academy & Industry

The Tenerife International Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ) has presented the program of one of its most anticipated parallel activities, the FIMUCITÉ Film Scoring Academy for Audiovisual Composers, which this year celebrates its 3rd edition on 26, 27 and 28th of September.

 

These training activities, free of charge, will take place in the Aula Magna of the Professional Music Conservatory of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (CPM Tenerife), during the week of the Festival: from September 21st to 30th.

 

Let’s see a summary of the planned activities:

On Wednesday 26th at 11:00h, there will be a master class with the composer and pianist Jean-Michel Bernard entitled “Everything you always wanted to know about film composition (but you never dared to ask)”.

 

On Wednesday 26th at 15:00h, the composer and artistic director of FIMUCITÉ Diego Navarro will give the master class “The creative process composer-director”, together with the filmmakers Enrique Gato and Mar Targarona, with whom he has collaborated in the creation of the soundtracks of the movies ‘Catch the Flag’ and ‘El fotógrafo de Mauthausen’, which premieres on October 26th.

 

On Thursday 27th at 12:00h, composer Laura Karpman, four-time winner of the Emmy Award and who currently serves as governor of the musical branch at the Academy of Hollywood, will star in the presentation “Musical challenges of the documentary genre”, presented by Doreen Ringer-Ross.

 

On Thursday 27th at 15:00h, composer Christopher Young will give the master class “Reach your summits of inspiration”, also presented by Doreen Ringer-Ross. Young, professor of film music composition at the University of Southern California, has an outstanding career in film and television, covering nearly a hundred films, including many related to fantasy and horror genre.

 

On Friday 28th at 12:30h, the composers & brothers Ben and Nick Foster will offer the class “When two composers are better than one. The creative tandem in film music”, giving as an example one of the many works of which both are co-authors: the soundtrack of the animation series ‘Thunderbirds are go!’, which is part of the program of the closing concert, precisely with Ben Foster as guest conductor.

 

And finally, on Friday 28th at 15:30h, the composer Darío Palomo, president of the Association of Music Composers for Audiovisual – Musimagen, will address the rights of the audiovisual composer with the conference “Protect your creation”.

 

FIMUCITÉ 12 - Film Scoring Academy

 

Within the educational branch of the Festival, to which the FIMUCITÉ Film Scoring Academy belongs, we can also find two concerts aimed at young school kids:

On Thursday 27th at 10:30h the Auditorium Antonio Lecuona of the CPM Tenerife will host the concert ‘Colossus of the Silver Screen’ performed by the FIMUCITÉ Youth Symphony Orchestra led by José Antonio Cubas. A concert dedicated to the music of films starring some of the mythical beasts of the movies, from King Kong to Godzilla, or the dinosaurs of ‘Jurassic Park’, which will also be enjoyed by the general public in a second performance that will take place on Sunday, September 30th at the Teatro Guimerá.

 

On Friday 28th at 10:30h, the most famous Theremin performer in the world and great promoter of this instrument, Lydia Kavina, will offer a concert for school children on the same venue, accompanied by the Krakow FMF Youth Ensemble, formed by Karolina Rumian (violin), Natalia Herman (viola), Gabriela Ślusarczyk (violoncello), Joanna Wicik (piano), Matetuz Wilk (percussion) and Martyna Bachowska (double bass). The program will include music by Howard Shore for ‘Ed Wood’, Danny Elfman for ‘Charlie and the chocolate factory’, and Ennio Morricone for ‘The Mission’, as well as compositions by classic authors such as Antonín Dvořák and Sergei Prokofiev, among others.

 

Registration to attend the master classes of the 3rd edition of the FIMUCITÉ Film Scoring Academy, in which participants will receive an official diploma for their attendance, can be done at the following link till 26th of September:
