Marché du Film 2020 – Online

Today, Monday, June 22, 2020, the Festival de Cannes is launching its online Marché du Film. This special 2020 version has been set up with a view to continuing to support the international film industry and its professionals. Taking place from 22 to 26 June, it will bring together over 8,500 participants for a total of 250 stands and 60 pavilions, offering over 1,200 online screenings, with the rights to 2,300 feature films available to buy.

 

This new version of the Marché du Film has been designed to mirror the traditional Cannes experience as closely as possible, and will also offer professionals from around the world opportunities to attend over 150 events, panel and keynote talks, speed meetings and round-table discussions, as well as exclusive concerts from film score and soundtrack composers.

Among the many online celebrations, we can find a section called ‘Spot the Composer’ with the following events:

  • 22/06/2020 – 18:00-19:00h – Keynote with Alexandre Desplat and John Powell. Soundtrack production from East to West. Hosted by Jon Burlingame (Variety).

 

  • 22/06/2020 – 19:00-19:45h – Meet & Listen – Mark Isham Online concert introduced by Jon Burlingame.

 

  • 23/06/2020 – 19:00-19:45h – Meet & Listen – Camille Bazbaz Concert. Online concert introduced by Stéphane Lerouge.

 

  • 24/06/2020 – 19:00-19:45h – Meet & Listen – Ryūichi Sakamoto Concert. Online concert introduced by Sten-Kristian Saluveer. «Incomplete»: Premiere of his new collaboration with Laurie Anderson & Arto Lindsay “In these times when things are not ‘normal’, I wanted to document the sensations I’ve been feeling. I invited a few of my musician friends to do this with me. I wanted to share the results with you all.” – Ryuichi Sakamoto.

 

  • 25/06/2020 – 19:00-19:45h – Meet & Listen Chloé Thévenin Online concert introduced by Philippe Azoury. Getting inspired by the performance Chloé played on request for the Cinémathèque française on Hitchcock’s latest silent movie “Blackmail” (1929), and her « Slow-Mo » live has been performed at Southbank London, Chloé slows down the tempo in an improvised live performance with a meditative approach.

 

  • 26/06/2020 – 19:00-19:45h – Meet & Listen Gabriel Yared Online concert of the internationally acclaimed French composer Gabriel Yared and member of the jury of the 2017 Cannes Film Festival. For 40 years of a happy relationship with the cinema, he has expressed his talent to great directors such as Jean-Luc Godard, Jean-Jacques Beinex, Robert Altman, Bruno Nuytten, Paul Schraeder, Jean-Jacques Annaud, Costa-Gavras, Michel Ocelot, Xavier Dolan (3 scores) and especially Anthony Minghella fruitful collaboration including Return to Cold Mountain, Mister Ripley and The English Patient in 1997 he is worth 4 awards including an Oscar. In 2020 Yared signed the score of Jimmy Keyrouz’s Broken Keys, a film in “and the soundtrack to Edoardo Ponti’s The Life Ahead, which will mark Sophia Loren’s return to the screen.
