Nordic Film Music Days – HARPA Award 2019 Winner

This week the Nordic Film Music Days 2019 event took place in Berlin (Germany), having composers from northern European countries such as Iceland, Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden, during which the HARPA Nordic Film Music Composer Award was presented (read news).

The winners of the award were the team formed by the composer Davíð Þór Jónsson and the director Benedikt Erlingsson, for the result of their musical and visual collaboration. According to the statement of the jury:

“In film scoring the criteria are never solely musical but also include the creative collision of the craftsmanship of a director and a composer. Hence, specifically this year’s award goes to both the director composer Davíð Þór Jónsson and the director Benedikt Erlingsson, for the distinct and highly original result their collaboration generated both musically and visually. With this Award this year we wish to further encourage the filmmakers to see music as a significant element of the story that elevates the story’s impact and not just as a formulaic ingredient that becomes somewhat important during post-production.”

The nominees for the HARPA Nordic Film Composer Award 2019 were:

  • Davíð Þór Jónsson (Islandia) – Woman at war / Kona fer í stríð (Benedikt Erlingsson)
