Honoring Legendary Composer Alan Menken

 

This year we’ll honor the legendary composer Alan Menken at the 2024 GMHC Cabaret & Howard Ashman Award on Monday, February 26 at Joe’s Pub in New York City.

The GMHC Cabaret is a star-studded event featuring Broadway stars and celebrities performing musical selections. The evening includes the Howard Ashman Award, named for the Oscar and Grammy winning lyricist who passed away in 1991 from AIDS-related complications.

 

This year, we are thrilled to honor Alan Menken, Howard Ashman’s musical collaborator. Menken crafted the music for Ashman’s iconic lyrics in Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Little Shop of Horrors, and The Little Mermaid. With 59 awards to his name, Menken has earned accolades such as Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Awards.
