Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson who passed away unexpectedly earlier this year in his apartment in Berlin, would have turned 49 years old next Wednesday, September 19th.
To honor his memory, composer and sound engineer Adam Wiltzie, who belonged to Jóhannsson’s inner circle of close friends, and under the approving eye of Jóhannsson’s management, has been in charge of selecting a program, a line-up, a location, and a date for a celebration concert, that has been named: “In Remembrance of Jóhann Jóhannsson: ‘Virðulegu Forsetar’”.
The concert will consist on a complete performance of ‘Virðulegu Forsetar’ (2004), Jóhann Jóhannsson‘s second album, that is a minimalistic composition in four parts of about 60 minutes. The instrumentation consists of 11 brass players, percussion, organ, and piano. Until now, the album has only been performed live twice, with the premiere taking place in the Hallgrímskirkja (Reykjavik, Iceland), where Jóhann’s funeral was also held.
The line-up will consist of Adam Wiltzie (electro/organ) -who is also to be heard on diverse soundtracks by Jóhannsson-, Skúli Sverrisson (bass/electro) and Belgian Brass band for the wind instruments, conducted by Guðni Franzson.
