The well-known and renowned Italian violinist Pierluigi Pietroniro, who participated in the recording of countless soundtracks by Maestro Ennio Morricone and was concertmaster on his European tours from 2001 till 2019, has written a book entitled ‘Il Manuale del Turnista – Tecnica e Cultura dello Strumentista in Sala di Registrazione’ (The Turner’s Handbook – Technique and Culture of the Instrumentalist in the Recording Room).
Published by Edizioni Efesto in October 2022, the book, which is currently only available in Italian, consists of 220 pages and is dedicated to those who wish to undertake the activity of ‘Turnista’ (professional musician dedicated to the recording of musical pieces in studio). Designed to familiarize them with performance techniques, but also with the culture surrounding this activity, it contains clues on the history of sound recording, current recording and mixing techniques, contracts, copyrights, and performance rights.
