The 6th edition of SONAFILM – Festival de Música de Cine de la Marina Alta, presents the concert ‘Tribute to Shigeru Umebayashi’ to be held on Friday, August 2 at the Auditori Teulada Moraira in Teulada, Alicante (Spain).
Oriental cinema has one of its greatest sound and aesthetic exponents in the Japanese composer Shigeru Umebayashi, world famous for his work in the filmography of renowned Chinese filmmakers such as Wong Kar-Wai (‘Desiring to Love’, ‘2046’) or Zhang Yimou (‘House of Flying Daggers’, ‘The Curse of the Golden Flower’).
Umebayashi, recognized in our country with the nomination to the Goya Award for Best Soundtrack in 2016 for his laureate musical contribution to the film ‘The Bride’, adaptation of the play by Federico García Lorca directed by Paula Ortiz, would get the same year with the Feroz Award for Best Original Score for this title. The admiration he raises within the European industry earned him in 2021 the nomination for the BAFTA Awards for his inspired score for the video game ‘Ghost of Tsushima’, His music has been the subject of live tributes, with exclusive galas at international festivals such as the FMF in Krakow or the World Soundtrack Awards in Ghent.
This tribute concert to the Japanese composer is an aesthetic delight that moves between his works for romantic cinema and martial arts stories set in medieval China.
The Universal Chamber Orchestra, conducted by José M. Colomina, will perform one of its most exotic concerts to date, with a first-class cast featuring soloists: Laura Cruz (Soprano), Andreu Trijero (ethnic flutes), Pau Botella (trumpet) and leading figures of the Orquesta de Valencia such as Manolo Segarra (concertmaster) and David Forés (cello).
