The special concert ‘Great Film Choirs: Morricone, Zimmer, and Williams‘, organized by the Excelentia Foundation, was held yesterday at Madrid’s National Auditorium.

Performed by the Royal Film Concert Orchestra conducted by Fernando Furones, and with the participation of the choir Sociedad Coral Excelentia de Madrid, giving way to more than 100 people on stage, the concert presented a full house with tickets sold out days ago and more than 2,000 people in the audience.

The concert began slowly with Titans from the film Alexander (Vangelis), then changed tack with The Dark Knight Rises (Zimmer) and Jurassic Park (Williams), raising the energy with Star Wars: Battle of the Heroes (Williams) where the orchestra and choir performed with real power. The program alternated intense themes with moments of respite, both for the choir and the audience, with music from Cinema Paradiso (Morricone), Tennessee from Pearl Harbor (Zimmer), or Hymn to the Fallen from Saving Private Ryan (Williams).

Although a wonderful full-color program was handed out with the works and the technical data sheets of the participants, it was missed that the program included a more complete description for each piece, in the style: Work – Film – Composer.

One of the best moments of the first part came at the end, with The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (Morricone), where a dedicated choir and a dynamic orchestra offered a very good interpretation of this Spaghetti Western classic.

Other highlights of the concert included the rhythmic and overwhelming Mombasa from Inception (Zimmer), a powerful suite from Avatar (Horner) with a heart-stopping finale, and the glorious Star Wars – Ep I: Duel of the Fates (Williams), which closed the concert in style. However, in reality, a standing room, applauding wildly, managed to get an encore: Pirates of the Caribbean (Badelt / Zimmer), thus closing a successful concert.
