Philip Glass celebrates his 85th birthday on January 31st and Filharmonie Brno congratulates him with his Chief Conductor Dennis Russell Davies and his wife Maki Namekawa in a special piano concert on Sunday, January 30th. They both belong to Glass’s best friends, and they will play three pieces Glass dedicated to them.
Program will be as follows:
- Philip Glass – Six Etudes
- Philip Glass – Piano Sonata, first Czech performance
- Philip Glass – Four Movements for Two Pianos
As a Birthday surprise, this event will also be the baptism of a CD with Glass’ Symphony No. 12 “Lodger”, which Filharmonie Brno recorded as the first orchestra in the world. An autograph session will follow the concert.

And on Monday, January 31st at 19:00h CET/ 13:00h EST, Dennis Russell Davies and Maki Namekawa will celebrate Philip Glass’ 85th birthday with a livestream concert from Deep Space 8k at the Ars Electronica Center in Linz (Austria) with real-time digital visualizations by Cori O’Lan. The program will be the same as the day before.
