Composer John Williams, who studied piano at the famed Manhattan school for the arts ‘The Julliard School’, received the President’s Medal from the school a few days ago at an alumni event held in Los Angeles, where he announced that he is bequeathing his complete library of concert music and film scores as well as his sketchbooks to the school.
The John Williams Music Collection includes, among others, all the music for his 51 Oscar nominations and his 5 winning-scores: ‘Fiddler on the Roof’, ‘Jaws’, ‘Star Wars’, ‘E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial’ and ‘Schindler’s List’.
During the event, John Williams stated: “Since my earliest days as a fledgling piano student, I have looked up to The Juilliard School as the mecca for the study of music in our country and beyond. It’s therefore a privilege for me to donate my sketches, papers, and scores to Juilliard, to be made available to those students particularly interested in the intimate processes of film scoring.”
