The Middleburg Film Festival has celebrated the art of film music since its first edition, by honoring a film composer with a “Distinguished Composer Award” and a live performance of his/her works (read more).
On its 11th edition (Oct 19-22, 2023), the honoree will be Michael Giacchino whose music will be performed in concert on October 20th by sixty members of the Loudoun Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Kim Kluge and accompanied by movie clips, and a conversation with Giacchino about his creative process.

“A beloved signature event of the festival is our CONCERT honoring a DISTINGUISHED FILM COMPOSER.This year, we’re delighted to be featuring the scores of Academy Award winning composer, MICHAEL GIACCHINO. Some of his most memorable scores will be performed by sixty members of the Loudoun Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Kim Kluge and accompanied by movie clips and a conversation with Giacchino about his creative process.
Composer and Director MICHAEL GIACCHINO has film score credits that feature some of the most popular and acclaimed projects in recent history, including The Incredibles, Coco, Jojo Rabbit, Ratatouille, Star Trek, Jurassic World, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Spider- Man: No Way Home, War for the Planet of the Apes and The Batman. Giacchino’s 2009 score for the Pixar hit Up earned him an Oscar®, a Golden Globe®, the BAFTA, the Broadcast Film Critics’ Choice Award and two GRAMMY® Awards. After almost twenty years of film scoring, Giacchino directed the very first Marvel special presentation, Werewolf By Night in 2022.
Giacchino also composed the score for Society of the Snow, which is screening at this year’s festival.”
