Next Thursday, June 21st, and Friday, June 22nd, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Barcelona y Nacional de Cataluña (OBC) under the baton of Arturo Diéz Boscovich, will perform the original soundtrack of Disney’s classic film, Fantasia (1940), while the movie is screened in its original version with subtitles.
Walt Disney was passionate about classical music and with the collaboration of conductor Leopold Stokowski, he created a work of art that, despite its 1940 box office flop, has become an indispensable reference in cinema history. Music from classical composers such as Bach, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Mussorgsky or Stravinsky, create the soundtrack of this movie, which transports us beyond the screen opening a world of fantasy.
The most popular piece of all: Mickey Mouse battling the thousands of uncontrolled brooms after making an unsuccessful spell, with the music of The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, by Paul Dukas, marking the rhythm.
