As part of the Melbourne International Film Festival (1-18 Aug 2019), Australian composers Nick Cave and Warren Ellis will join the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (MSO) on August 8, 9 & 10, to perform for the first time a selection of suites of their film music in full symphonic sound in Melbourne (Australia).
Cave and Ellis’ film scores are instantly recognizable for their minimal and hauntingly beautiful tones. Full of light and shade, creeping dread, and inconsolable yearning, the heavily instrumental sounds inject humanity into the ghostly frontier towns, parched desert landscapes, post-apocalyptic war zones and extra-terrestrial vistas of their renowned films.
The MSO will be conducted by Benjamin Northey, joined by Nick Cave & Warren Ellis as soloists, and the repertoire will include suites and selections from the movies The Proposition (2005), The Road (2009), Hell or High Water (2016), The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007), West of Memphis (2012) and Wind River (2017).
