A special in-person event hosted by The Legacy of John Williams featuring historic LSO musicians Eric Crees and Hugh Seenan, film music scholar Emilio Audissino and, joining remotely from Los Angeles, soundtrack producer Mike Matessino

The Legacy of John Williams is proud to announce a very special event dedicated to all fans of Maestro John Williams. Coming on the heels of the success of their website and podcast series, producers Maurizio Caschetto and Tim Burden will host a live event with a distinguished panel of special guests gathering together to celebrate the music and the art of John Williams.

On Saturday 21 October at 2pm (UK), John Williams’ fans will have the chance to attend a live meeting at a location in central London honouring the career of Maestro Williams and his special relationship with the London music scene that will include Q&As with esteemed guests, all in the very same spirit of the talks of The Legacy of John Williams podcast.

Former LSO musicians Eric Crees (Co-Principal Trombone 1973-2000) and Hugh Seenan (Principal Horn 1984-1998) will reminisce about their years playing with the London Symphony Orchestra and on film scores, recordings and live concerts with John Williams, including the original Star Wars trilogy.

Film music scholar Emilio Audissino (Associate Professor at Linnaeus University, Sweden, and author of the book The Film Music of John Williams: Reviving The Hollywood Sound) will offer an historical and aesthetic assessement of John Williams’ scores from the late 1970s and early ‘80s, many of which were recorded in London.

John Williams’ archival soundtrack producer Mike Matessino will join remotely from Los Angeles to talk about his work restoring the audio of seminal works of the Maestro, including beloved London recordings Fiddler On The RoofSupermanThe FuryDracula and the Harry Potter film series. Matessino will also present a special treat prepared exclusively for the occasion.

At the end of the panels, the audience will then have the chance to attend a special screening of a classic film with music by John Williams (attendance is optional).

Attendees will receive a glossy print of an exclusive John Williams portrait by top movie poster artist Paul Shipper and, and to make the event all the more special, will also be part of a jaw-dropping prize draw that includes such items as limited edition soundtrack CDs, Blu-rays, memorabilia, and items autographed by John Williams!

Being in London for a John Williams event is always something special,” says co-producer Tim Burden. “Williams himself said in 1996 that he felt the LSO were co-creators on so many of the films a generation grew up with. Having some of those musicians with us on the day is extra special. The icing on the cake is having Emilio Audissino live in person and Mike Matessino joining remotely, as they are true authorities on John Williams.”

It’s going to be a great day for fans and admirers of John Williams,” says Legacy of John Williams editor Maurizio Caschetto. “London has always been a special place for the Maestro and being here hosting an event with such a distinguished panel of guests is a real joy for us. We’re honoured to celebrate John Williams through the words and the stories of musicians, historians and collaborators.”

The weekend in London is going to be full of festivities: a concert dedicated to John Williams’ stirring music for the Star Wars saga will be performed on Sunday 22 October at the Royal Albert Hall, hosted by actor Marc Silk with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and The Cantus Ensemble Choir conducted by Stephen Bell.
