On Saturday, May 16th, LALIFF – Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival, organized an online masterclass dedicated to Music Composition.
Moderated by Alexis de la Rocha (LALIFF Managing Director), the panel had the participation of the following composers:
- Elik Álvarez – Venezuelan-born composer based in Los Angeles
- Tony Morales – EMMY-nominated composer who works for television and film.
- Carl Thiel – Award-winning composer and producer who splits time between Los Angeles and Austin, Texas.
- Maria Vertiz – Born in Mexico City to a family of musicians, she is a composer, producer, and songwriter who creates music filled with ethnic sounds, atmospheric ideas, and structural concepts from different eras.
- Amanda Durán – Composer born in Los Angeles. Self-taught pianist and songwriter.
During the chat, they discussed the influence behind these talented musicians and artists, and how their unique perspectives have shaped their music and projects. They also addressed their inspirations and music creation process, and how they work closely with productions, to craft unique sounds that support the storytelling.
