Films by Charlie Chaplin (1889 -1977) ● Charlot pompier | 1916 / Charlot patine | 1916 / Charlot s’évade | 1917 ● Music by Cyrille Aufort (b. 1974) / Jean Deroyer, direction

Three short films by Charlie Chaplin make up this ciné-concert (Charlot pompier, Charlot patine, Charlot s’évade), three incursions into the magical world of the famous vagabond. Although made in 1917, these comedies of manners are still relevant today in their depiction of the human condition, with its dramatic, comic and quaint foibles…

On stage and in front of the screen, the Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire performs Cyrille Aufort’s music, original, inventive, respectful of the images and attentive to the burlesque scenes of which Chaplin had the secret. In perfect harmony with the films, this composition requires extraordinary precision on the part of conductor Jean Deroyer, the musicians and the score-writers. A session full of laughter, where emotion and sonic pleasure come together in a skillfully balanced alchemy. To hear a symphony orchestra accompany the adventures of Charlie Chaplin is a wonderful introduction to music… as much as to cinema!
