Discover the fascinating musical dialogue between the author of the famous waltz from «Leper» and Philip Glass at the concert «Kilar | Glass» featuring Aleksander Debicz, Katarzyna Tomala-Jedynak, and Sinfonietta Cracovia, where cinematic masterpieces combine with modern sound.

Kilar | Glass

What do the author of the famous waltz from The Leper and Philip Glass, the master of American minimalism, have in common? Both combined success in film music with outstanding concert works, and both were influenced by the legendary Parisian teacher Nadia Boulanger. Both also composed music for films based on the story of Count Dracula!

The Kilar | Glass concert combines the best of both composers’ works: clear vision, original and recognizable style, and memorable melodies associated with such titles as Francis Ford Coppola’s Dracula and the Oscar-winning Hours. The concert program will include not only the best-known film themes (also from the films Portrait of a Lady and Leprechaun), but also Wojciech Kilar’s stringed, lively Orava and works with a leading role for the piano, including original compositions by the concert’s soloist, Aleksandr Debich.

Kilar | Glass is an original project of the Orchestra of the Royal Capital City of Krakow Sinfonietta Cracovia, which has already sounded, among others, at the Film Music Festival in Krakow, at the Fimucité festival on Tenerife, and even in New York (where Philip Glass himself was present during last year’s concert). Sinfonietta Cracovia will perform under the baton of its first conductor and artistic director, Katarzyna Tomala-Jedynak, presenting the fullness of its string sound in a repertoire on the borderline between new and film music.
