Variety ha informado de que el legendario compositor John Williams ha escrito un tema original para el campeonato nacional de fútbol americano universitario de la ESPN (‘ESPN College Football Championship’).

 

Bautizado como ‘Of Grit and Glory (De valor y gloria)’, este tema de tres minutos y medio “suena como una alegre obertura, abriéndose con fanfarrias y pasando sin problemas de la urgencia marcial al esplendor antémico, todo ello ricamente orquestado e instantáneamente memorable”.

 

El tema se grabó el 21 de diciembre de 2022 en el Sony Scoring Stage, donde John Williams dirigió una orquesta de 96 músicos y ESPN aportó siete cámaras, para rodar toda la sesión de grabación de tres horas, partes de la cual se entrelazarán a lo largo del segmento inicial.

 

La pieza se emitirá mañana, lunes 9 de enero de 2023, a las 19:30, hora del Este de EEUU, antes del partido TCU-Georgia en el SoFi Stadium de Inglewood, California.

 

En palabras de John Williams:

“Intercollegiate football has been at the heart and soul of our nation’s life for so long that the opportunity to musically salute this great tradition has been a particularly meaningful joy for me. I was thrilled and excited when ESPN suggested that I write a theme for the Jan. 9 championship game.

 

The games themselves always raise the collective spirit and, in the end, the competition brings us all closer to a place where the concept of winners and losers dissolves into mutual respect and admiration. The invitation to write this music constitutes a great honor for me, and I feel especially privileged to make a small contribution to one of our country’s most treasured traditions.”
