Prague Proms 2024 - Conciertos

Hollywood Night – Mon 24/6/24 – 19h – Municipal House, Smetana Hall

The Czech National Symphony Orchestra has offered its audience nearly three dozen Hollywood Nights and has met many icons of film music. In September 2023, we invited you on social media to co-create the programme of the Hollywood Night concert, which will take place as part of the 20th annual Prague Proms festival.

Originally, only the first half of the concert was to be created according to your choice. However, your reaction brought more beautiful ideas than we expected. That’s why we have adapted the whole concert programme to your suggested titles, and added only a few of our favourites.

We are already looking forward to the unique atmosphere in the Smetana Hall. The one you create with our help.

Broadway Lights Vol. 2 – Fri 28/6/24 – 19h – Municipal House, Smetana Hall

In collaboration with Steven Mercurio, our project Broadway Lights brings the dazzling lights of Broadway and an influx of its most popular melodies to the stage. This performance will mark the second time it has been played during the three decades of the CNSO’s activity on the Czech and international scene.

The previous concert was conducted by Carl Davis, who passed away in August 2023. We want to dedicate this concert to him.

Our conductor Steven Mercurio, who lives in New York, is a frequent guest on the Broadway stage and in the Philadelphia Opera. The soloists for this concert are from America’s unique Jeremy Winston Chorale. And supporting them is none other than American tenor Richard Troxell, who recorded his 2015 album Classic Broadway in collaboration with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra and Steven Mercurio.

Reviens Bébel! – Tue 17/9/24 – 19h – Municipal House, Smetana Hall

Concert Moved.

Tickets with original date of the concert (September 18, 2024) remain valid.

Our fans had the opportunity to attend a performance dedicated to the rugged film and theatre actor Jean-Paul Belmondo at an extraordinary concert of the Czech National Symphony Orchestra in 2022. The remarkable success of the event and our admiration of this legendary actor has led us to revisit our project, Reviens Bébel! This time as part of the Prague Proms.

Jean-Paul Belmondo, nicknamed Bébel, excelled in star roles as irresistible adventurers or cynical heroes. In collaboration with the greatest French film makers, he showed courage and superb physical acumen, able to take on even the riskiest scenes without doubles or stuntmen. He could also play psychologically demanding characters with bravura. The famous actors Jean Gabin and Alain Delon were his partners in film, while the mesmerising Tunisian Italian actress Claudia Cardinale exemplifies his colleagues of the female persuasion.

The concert, which is held in the Smetana Hall of the Municipal House in Prague, invites listeners to enjoy the most famous film melodies that are forever inseparably entwined with the one-and-only Bébel. Conducted by Italy’s Marcello Rota, the programme includes music from hits like Hold-Up, Cop or Hood, That Man from Rio, Breathless, or Le Magnifique.

Performers:

  • Czech National Symphony Orchestra
  • Marcello Rota, conductor

Program:

  • Hold-Up (1985), Serge Franklin
  • That Man from Rio / L’Homme de Rio (1964), Georges Delerue

  • Borsalino (1970), Claude Bolling
  • The Outsider / Le Marginal (1983), Ennio Morricone

  • Hunter Will Get You / L’Alpagueur (1976), Michel Colombier
  • The Brain / Le Cerveau (1969), Georges Delerue
  • Up to His Ears / Les tribulations d’un Chinois en Chine (1965), Georges Delerue
