On March 26th & 27th, the Houston Symphony conducted by Andrés Orozco-Estrada will premiere Bruce Broughton’s ‘Concerto for Horn and Orchestra’ with William VerMeulen as soloist. The Sunday concert will also be live-streamed.
The program will be as follows:
- Maurice Ravel’s mesmerizing Boléro is one of classical music’s most electrifying live concert experiences.
- Oscar-nominated composer Bruce Broughton has captured generations of moviegoers through his colorful film scores for Hollywood blockbusters like Silverado, Tombstone, and The Presidio, and this cinematic flourish shines bright in his new Horn Concerto, premiered on these concerts by Symphony Principal William VerMeulen.
- Principal Tuba Dave Kirk gives the Texas premiere of Wynton Marsalis’s new Tuba Concerto, an exhilarating fusion of classical and jazz.
- The hustle and flair of 1920s Paris comes alive in George Gershwin’s jaunty, jazz-infused ‘An American in Paris’.
