The World of Hans Zimmer – A New Dimension – Berlin 2024 – BRIEF SUMMARY
On March 8, the tour ‘The World of Hans Zimmer – A New Dimension’ kicked off in Prague, and with tickets sold out in all its initial cities, it is offering a spectacular show, totally renewed and full of light and music (special article here).
Our friend and composer Héctor Marroquín attended the concert in Berlin on March 9, the second concert of the tour, and leaves us this brief summary of it:
Somehow are Hans Zimmer’s days longer. Or probably the nights.
But whatever that is, it is remarkable how much new stuff he creates: new music, new versions of older scores, arrangements of other’s works (“Time to say good bye” a few days ago for the Oscars, for example) or even a completely new concept for a show which since some days’ tours through Europe.
I was on the second show of the tour, in Berlin and I’m probably not wrong when I say that the completely sold out Mercedes Benz Arena (12 000 people!) had a night to remember. New and old suites from many of his film scores shone in a new light with lots of highlights, incredible soloists and many suites which fans were waiting since long time to hear live (“The Rock”, “The Prince of Egypt” among others).
On a massive screen behind the big orchestra and band appeared an omnipresent Hans Zimmer between the pieces to interact with conductor Gavin Greenaway to tell anecdotes about the films or even joke about them. Snaps from interviews for each projects and of course film scenes during the concert made the experience complete. It was like going into the mind of the composer and being able to re-experience his memories and listening to the music suites created exclusively for a listening experience without the film.
What a joy to have this show of lights and music, performed in a very high level with the “Hans Zimmer Band” (many of them known to the fans): Lisa Gerrard (vocalist), Lebo M (vocalist), Carla Chamoun (vocalist), Nokukhanya Dlamini (vocalist), Gan-ya Ben-gur Akselrod (vocalist-soprano), Juan Garcia-Herreros (bass guitar), Pedro Eustache (multi woodwinds soloist), Rusanda Panfili (solo violin), Eliane Correa (keyboard), Alexios Anest (guitarist), Lucy Landymore (drums/percussion), Luis Ribeiro (multi-percussion), Mariko Muranaka (cellist), Aleksandra Šuklar (mallets/multi-percussion).
And what a beautiful time to be a film music fan where this kind of concerts happen. Not many artists can have sold out arenas and stadiums all around the globe these days. And the fact that one of those artists is “just” a film music composer is simply beautiful!
