The Los Angeles based music ensemble Helix Collective and the Composers Diversity Collective present the concert “Spotlight!”, to be held on Saturday, April 23rd, 2022, featuring premiere concert pieces and media music reimagined for the stage by film, television, and video game composers from the Composers Diversity Collective.

The 10-piece film music ensemble led by conductor Phil Popham, will premiere works by the following composers: two-time Emmy-nominee Michael Abels (Get Out, Us, Allen vs. Farrow), four-time Emmy winning composer Vivek Maddala (The Tom and Jerry Show), Dara Taylor (The Tender Bar), Sherri Chung (Riverdale, The Red Line), Emmy-nominated composer Tony Morales (Reacher, The Endgame), Jongnic Bontemps (4400), Vidjay Beerepoot (Bruxelles), two-time Annie Award-nominee Amritha Vaz, Sid de la Cruz, and Ghiya Rhushidat.

“We are beyond excited to work with the Composers Diversity Collective again this year. We had so much fun collaborating on the Shoutout! album together in 2021 and we can’t wait to bring our musical synergy to this live performance,” say Helix Collective co-founders Phil Popham & Sarah Robinson.

Michael Abels, co-founder of the non-profit Composers Diversity Collective (CDC) to raise awareness for the many composers from diverse backgrounds working in Hollywood, said:

“To achieve a more inclusive industry, the Composers Diversity Collective aims to broaden the perception of who composers are. Presenting concert works by people of color broadens that perception in the concert hall, and is an example of the importance of visibility. The CDC is excited to partner with the Helix Collective in championing underrepresented voices. We hope you’ll join us in celebrating the richness of our LA composer community.”

The concert will premiere the chamber version of Michael AbelsWinged Creatures for flute and clarinet soloists and Jongnic Bontemps’ new chamber work written in response to the Black Lives Matter protests of the past few years.

Media music composed for film and television will also be transformed and reimagined for concert stage for this performance. Each piece will showcase the unique musical and artistic voice of each composer, shining a bright spotlight on their talents, range, and artistry.
