The documentary “Kantauri (2025)” about the Cantabrian Sea, directed by Xabier Mina and Isaías Cruz, with a soundtrack composed by Joseba Beristain, recorded by the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra under the baton of David Hernando Rico, and mixed by sound engineer Mikel F Krutzaga, opens today in cinemas.

In the words of Joseba Beristain:

It has always seemed incredible to me that the idea of one person can encourage many others to work together to materialise something that didn’t exist before, to create something that, hopefully, makes the world a better, more habitable place.

On this occasion, the idea came from Xabier Mina and Isaias Cruz: to make a documentary about the Cantabrian Sea. Thousands of incredible images accompanied this idea. Images that with the script by Patxi Zubizarreta and Beatriz Iso, the editing by Ignacio Maqui, the sound by Koldo Corella and the production by Dibulitoon and 601 Producciones Audiovisuales ended up taking the form of a beautiful and surprising documentary about our sea. And in all of this maelstrom, I was lucky enough to be able to compose the soundtrack. And of course, I was not alone: I had the company of Jaime Gutiérrez Domínguez in the orchestration, the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra under the direction of David Hernando Rico, the incredible voice of Aiora Renteria and Mikel F Krutzaga making everything sound wonderful.

It’s always easier to navigate life in good company, don’t you think?

This Friday 4th of April, “Kantauri” will be released in cinemas and the soundtrack will be available on all platforms, thank you all very much!
