Hollywood Music Workshop 2018
The 10th edition of the film scoring academy Hollywood Music Workshop, will be held this summer from 9th of July till 16th of August 2018 in Baden (Austria).
Hollywood Music Workshop 2018 is comprised of seven different masterclasses that can be attended individually or as a whole, with an amazing line-up of top Hollywood composers, orchestrators and arrangers, in charge of this 10th edition: Cris Velasco, John Lunn, Joe Kraemer, Johannes Vogel, T.J. Lindgren, Conrad Pope, Nan Schwarz and Dimitrie Leivici.
The workshops, held daily from 9am-12am and 2pm-5pm, will cover from composing, orchestration and arrangement, through recording with a real orchestra on the new world-class Synchron Stage Vienna and final mixing. This way, participants will learn the entire film scoring process, gaining real-world knowledge delivered by some of Hollywood’s best.
The Hollywood Music Workshop 2018 schedule is as follows:
July 9 – 11: Cris Velasco – Composing for Video Games – Learn how to compose for video games, with advanced techniques of writing music for this genre from Cris Velasco, multiple award-winning composer of epic orchestral, dark experimental and modern hybrid music scores for video games, film and television.
July 12 – 14: John Lunn – Scoring for TV Drama Series – Hollywood Music Workshop covers for the first time the specifics of TV scoring, in a workshop that will show how to compose for multi-episodic dramas, with the mentoring of one of the best in this genre, John Lunn. Dive into techniques to keep a thematic arch across a TV series while providing an individual score to every single episode.
July 16 – 20: Joe Kraemer – From Concept to Composition – Learn the conceptual and composing aspects of creating music for film and what is needed to get a composition recorded. Classes will include Joe Kraemer’s tips and behind-the-scenes looks at the scoring of Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation and Jack Reacher.
July 22 – 24: Johannes Vogel – Conducting for Modern Film-Scoring – Mentored by Johannes Vogel, principal conductor at the Synchron Stage Vienna, this workshop focuses on the tools needed for a composer to conduct his/her own music, helping to get in touch with the basics of leading recording-sessions with a symphony orchestra. Additionally, a real live recording experience will be generated with live musicians during regular classroom hours.
July 27 – 29 & July 30-August 1: T.J. Lindgren – Creating Midi-Mockups – Composer and arranger T.J. Lindgren who has worked on projects ranging from small independent films to Hollywood blockbusters and Oscar-nominated scores, will teach students how to use sample libraries and sound processing tools to create a realistic orchestral sound out of the digital audio workstation (DAW) software. After the tremendous success this master class had in had in 2017, the new course will be broken up into two parts: a 3-day Beginning/Intermediate course and a 3-day Advanced course.
August 4 – 10: Conrad Pope & Nan Schwartz – Orchestration and Arranging – Learn all the techniques behind orchestrating and arranging a piece from one of the best orchestrators in Hollywood, Conrad Pope, and Grammy Award-winning arranger Nan Schwartz.
August 12 – 16: Recording at the Synchron Stage in Vienna – In this workshop, Joe Kraemer will guide the students through the recording process, with assistance from the booth from renowned composer and orchestrator Conrad Pope. The music of the participants will be recorded professionally, using state of the art equipment at the Synchron Stage in Vienna. Renowned Hollywood concertmaster and Hollywood Music Workshop Director Dimitrie Leivici will lead the 50-piece orchestra and provide additional coaching.
