The 17th Krakow Film Music Festival is not just about concerts; it also features discussions, meetings, and presentations. Between May 22 and 26, the next edition of the FMF Audiovisual Forum will take place at the Potocki Palace on Krakow’s Market Square. This event is aimed at both the general public and industry professionals, offering a unique opportunity to delve deeper into the world of film music!

Since 2013, the FMF Audiovisual Forum has gathered the most dedicated film music fans. An essential part of the program is the industry-focused Professionals track, while the Film Music Lovers track is designed for the broader public. The forum will open on May 22 at 12:00 PM with a press conference featuring, among others, American composer Elliot Goldenthal and one of Poland’s most outstanding violinists, Agata Szymczewska. On the same day, guests at the Potocki Palace will have the chance to reflect on the impact of Schindler’s List on Krakow’s image. This discussion is part of the celebrations marking the 30th anniversary of the Polish premiere of Steven Spielberg’s Oscar-winning film.

Film music enthusiasts are particularly looking forward to meetings with the most renowned creators. On May 24, we will e into the underwater world of Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale during a conversation with composer Rob Simonsen. On the same day, we will meet Elliot Goldenthal, the composer of soundtracks for films such as Batman Forever, Interview with the Vampire, and Frida. Goldenthal, one of the greatest composers of our time, has been honored with an Oscar, Grammy, Golden Globe, and the Kilar Award.

One of the significant phenomena in contemporary Polish culture is the search for inspiration in folk art. This will be the focus of a discussion on May 25, featuring, among others, Martin Phipps (composer of the score for Ridley Scott’s acclaimed Napoleon) and Arkadiusz Reikowski (winner of the Digital Dragons award for the soundtrack to the game Blacktail). This theme will reappear on May 26 in a conversation with the creators of the film The Peasants – composer Łukasz “L.U.C.” Rostkowski and director DK Welchman. We will also discuss collaboration with sound designers, the dynamic changes brought by AI, and the development prospects of the Polish film music industry.

“Thanks to the support of our partners, the Potocki Palace will be this year a place not only for meetings but also for new experiences: from an immersive sound installation and the presentation of works created at SyncCamp to innovative workshops on hybrid mixing and mastering. Within the FMF Audiovisual Forum, we consistently conduct specialized educational activities, such as the recording session for the winners of the FMF Young Talent Award contest in cooperation with the European Centre for Music in Lusławice and AGH University of Science and Technology,” says Michael Łyczek, Program Director of KBF.

Admission to the events is free. The detailed program can be found on https://fmf.fm/program. The co-organizer of the FMF Audiovisual Forum is Bettermaker.
