Krakow FMF 2018 – Young Talent Award

The 6th edition of the Young Talent Award will be held this year during Krakow Film Music Festival 2018. Its previous editions brought together just under 500 young composers from more than 30 countries, being Young Talent Award’s main objective selecting talented young composers and helping them reach the general public and global film industry representatives during the festival.

In this year’s edition, contestants will be tasked with composing a symphonic orchestral soundtrack to fragments of the action game James Bond 007: Blood Stone, which was scored by Richard Jacques, who will be part of the evaluating jury.

The selection process will have four evaluation stages where the jury will short-list 21 scores for technical evaluation and aesthetic assessment. Apart from the names of the grand finalists, the jury will grant seven “wild cards” or invitations to take part in the 11th FMF’s Master Class workshops.

The 8-member jury who will evaluate the submitted pieces will be led by director Agnieszka Holland and will have the following professionals among others: Robert Townson (Varèse Sarabande record label), Chris Brown (West One Music Group), Diego Navarro (composer, conductor and director of Fimucité festival) and Richard Jacques (author of the original James Bond 007: Blood Stone video game score).

The main prize winner and two runners-up will be announced on 24 April 2018. Young Talent Award’s main prize is a statue and the public performance of the winning piece during the Video Games Music Gala at the TAURON Arena in Krakow on 2 June 2018.

The main prize winner will also be the recipient of The West One Music Group Young Composer Award, being invited to take part in an orchestral recording session at a top recording studio in London with West One Music Group as they record a future release. The prize also entails meetings with orchestral musicians and record producers, active participation in the session (in both the concert hall and the director’s room) and insight into the inner workings of recording the highest quality music for media use. West One Music Group will cover flight costs and costs of accommodation in London.

Applications from young composers (under 35) will be open from February 15 to March 19, 2018.
