OFFICIAL DESCRIPTION

It’s sometimes said that good film music shouldn’t be noticed. The composers featured on this program have not followed this advice, and all the better for it! Although composed for the screen, film soundtracks are scores in their own right that can do without images. Or rather, they are scores so evocative that they have the power to awaken images in us, and better still: they give us the pleasure of remembering the images that go with them, and even of guessing them.

A concert like a Cannes Film Festival for your ears, featuring the greatest composers of film music: from Georges Delerue and Francis Laï to Jean Wiéner, Paul Misraki, Claude Bolling and many others…

These are the cult melodies that graced French cinema in the 1960s and 1970s. Their musical treasures draw on all genres – chanson, jazz, classical – to embrace the story and its characters: from comedy to passionate love (the iconic dance scene in Et Dieu…créa la femme comes to mind, as does the irresistible dabadabada in Un Homme et une Femme), destructive love (Le Mépris, with its haunting string orchestra theme) and even detective films (the melancholy harmonica theme in Touchez pas au grisbi, and Borsalino, with its tasty jazz that immediately sets the scene for Delon and Belmondo).

Inseparable from the films for which they composed the soundtracks, these composers have immortalized the masterpieces of Godard, Lelouch, Becker… Thanks to their unforgettable melodies, they achieve a perfect marriage between music and the seventh art!
