2019-11-21 – 15:10 h

The Basque National Orchestra conducted by Maite Aurrekoetxea, and with Ana Eguiazabal as a host, will perform serveral concerts for schoolchildren on November 21 & 22, 2019, at the Chamber Hall of the Kursaal Auditorium in Donostia-San Sebastián (Basque Country, Spain), in a double morning session: 9:45h & 11:30h.

The concerts, entitled ‘Urrutiko Lurraldeak (Far Away Lands)’ will have the entire orchestra embark on the epic journey that Juan Sebastián Elkano made 500 years ago. The highlight of the concert will be the projection of clips from the animated film ‘Elkano. Lehen mundu bira’, together with a music suite composed by Joseba Beristain for the feature film. Starting with this adventure, students will be able to enjoy its origin and the different melodies that could have shaped the soundtrack of that journey (Beethoven, Strauss, Rossini, etc.).

The complete program will be as follows:

  • Gioacchino Rossini (1792-1868): El barbero de Sevilla. Obertura [8’]
  • Fernando Velázquez (1976): Zipi y Zape y la isla del capitán. Tema [3’]
  • Jesús Guridi (1886-1961): Diez melodías vascas [11’]
  • Joseba Beristain (1978): Elkano. La primera vuelta al mundo. Suite [15’]
  • Ludwig Van Beethoven (1770-1827): 12 Contradanzas. VII y VIII [1’]
  • Johannes Brahms (1833-1897): Danza húngara nº5 [2’]
  • Josef Strauss (1827-1870): Ohne Sorgen! Polka [2’]
