‘Celebrating John Williams’ concerts with the LA Phil conducted by Gustavo Dudamel

The Los Angeles Philharmonic (LA Phil) orchestra, that celebrates its centenary in 2019, will offer this week a special 4 concert series dedicated to the music of maestro John Williams entitled ‘Celebrating John Williams’.

 

The concerts, to be performed at the Walt Disney Concert Hall on Thursday 24 @ 8pm, Friday 25 @ 8pm, Saturday 26 @ 8pm and Sunday 27 @ 2pm, will be conducted by Gustavo Dudamel, having Simone Porter at the violin and Robert deMaine at the cello.

There hasn’t been any confirmation about the possible appearance of John Williams on any of the concerts, but it’s likely that he will attend at least one of the performances.

Anyone who appreciates the iconic film scores of John Williams will be transported when Gustavo Dudamel leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic in this emblematic sampling of Williams’ unforgettable themes, augmented by a selection of film clips, with the following program:

  • John WILLIAMS – Olympic Fanfare and Theme
  • John WILLIAMS – Excerpts from Close Encounters of the Third Kind
  • John WILLIAMS – Out to Sea/Shark Cage Fugue from Jaws
  • John WILLIAMS – Three Selections from Harry Potter
  • John WILLIAMS – Theme from Schindler’s List (Simone Porter, violin)
  • John WILLIAMS – Adventures on Earth from E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial

  • John WILLIAMS – Flight to Neverland from Hook
  • John WILLIAMS – Theme from Jurassic Park
  • John WILLIAMS – Three Selections from Indiana Jones­
  • John WILLIAMS – Sayuri’s Theme from Memoirs of a Geisha (Robert deMaine, cello)
  • John WILLIAMS – Three Selections from Star Wars

There will be pre-concert talks 1 hour before the events start (speakers to be announced), being free for ticketholders.  The performances will be recorded, and will be released by Deutsche Grammophon on March 15 (read news).
