FIMUCITÉ 16 – Fimucité Film Scoring Academy

The FIMUCITÉ Film Scoring Academy, coordinated by Pedro J. Mérida, is one of the most highly-anticipated parallel activities of the Festival, which takes place every year as part of the Festival’s commitment to training in this field, and that offers a unique opportunity to students and musical professionals interested in creating music for audiovisual media.

This year, the activities will take place at the IACtec Centre, which is located in the Parque Tecnológico y Científico de Tenerife in Las Mantecas (La Laguna), from Monday, 19th, till Saturday, 23rd of September.

 

The incredible roster of speakers and participants includes composers as influential as Brad Fiedel, creator of the scores for ‘The Terminator’ and ‘The Terminator 2’; Vince DiCola, composer of ‘Transformers: The Movie’, ‘Staying Alive’ or ‘Rocky IV’; or Marcin Przybilowicz and P.T. Adamczyk, responsible for the music of hit videogame ‘Cyberpunk 2077’. Ben Watkins (Juno Reactor), responsible for several tracks in the ‘Matrix’ saga, alongside drummer Greg Ellis and guitarist Amir John Haddad – El Amir; soloist Olga Jankowska, not forgetting sound engineer Dennis Sands, orchestrator and arranger Leigh Phillips and producer Peter Hackman, will also take part in this year’s edition

 

Spanish composers will also be celebrated, with names such as Iván Palomares, Arnau Bataller, Josué Vergara, Gerard Pastor, Ramón García i Soler, and Xavier Capellas taking part in round table ‘The Influence of New Technologies in Competitive Development’, moderated by film music specialist Conrado Xalabarder.

 

All attendees, who will find the registration form on the Festival’s website (https://fimucite.com/16/ffsa), will receive a diploma certifying their participation. The limited capacity sessions will take place from Monday to Thursday from 5 to 7pm, on Friday, from 4:30 to 6pm and there will be morning sessions on Saturday from 10:30am to 12:30 pm, and from 1:30 to 3:30pm.

  • 5pm to 7pm – Musical Overproduction in Big-Budget Videogames – with Marcin Przybylowicz, P.T. Adamczyk, and Olga Jankowska.

 

Tuesday, 20th September

  • 5pm to 7pm – Looking Forward: The Electronic Component in Symphonic Film Scores – With Juno Reactor, Greg Ellis, and El Amir John Haddad.

 

Wednesday, 21st September

  • 5pm to 7pm – Who’s the Boss? The Importance of Knowing Who has the Last Word in the Creative Composition Process – by Brad Fiedel

 

Thursday, 22nd September

  • 5pm to 7pm – Where’s my Orchestra? Synthesisers and Programmed Bases as a Substitute for Real Orchestras – With Vince DiCola, Brad Fiedel, and Leigh Phillips. Moderated by Peter Hackman.

 

Friday, 23rd September

  • 11:00 am to 13 pm – Musical composition in new audiovisual media: beyond cinema and videogames – by Sara López
  • 4:30pm to 6pm – Roundtable of Spanish composers: The Influence of New Technologies in Composition Development – With Iván Palomares, Arnau Bataller, Josué Vergara, Gerard Pastor, Ramón García i Soler, and Xavier Capellas. Moderated by Conrado Xalabarder

 

Saturday, 24th September

  • 10:00am to 12:30pm – Sound Mixing in the World of the Composer – Creating a Demo that Makes You Relevant – by Dennis Sands.
  • 1:30pm to 3:30pm – Studio Recording Project – Techniques for Getting the Best Sound – by Dennis Sands
