August 2-5 – Joe Kraemer – Composing for Film – ‘Narrative Story Telling’ [ZOOM]

Composer Joe Kraemer will share his perspective on writing music for Film and Television with a focus on storytelling and narrative structure, and the application of musical techniques toward those goals. Joe Kraemer will invite directors he has collaborated with during his 26 years in the business. The class will include assignments that encourage the students to develop the relevant skills for compelling narrative scoring.

9-13 de agosto – Conrad Pope, Joe Kraemer, Dimitrie Leivici – Grabación de una banda sonora [EN BADEN / ZOOM]

This module will have the participation of Joe Kraemer, Conrad Pope & Dimitrie Leivici, to guide the participants in the whole recording process, from preparation to execution. The recording sessions will take place on August 12, with a 35-piece orchestra, at Austrian MG Sound in Vienna (www.mg-sound.com), presented as a live event, both in person and via Zoom, in whichever way a participant might choose to attend.

August 16-22 – Conrad Pope and Nan Schwartz – Orchestration and Arranging [LIVE IN BADEN / ZOOM]

This six-day course will provide an insider’s look at “orchestration” of film music. From basic instrumentation to the complete execution of a score, every step of writing professionally for an orchestra in today’s film world will be addressed.  The course will include an overview of all the instruments and instrumental families of today’s orchestra, their characteristics, their strong and weak points, and how to use them effectively in an orchestration. Also determining the orchestra size for particular genres of scores as well as adapting to budgetary constraints will be discussed.

This class is an intense three-day workshop distilling the essence of Garry Schyman’s experience scoring games, films, and television. The participants are challenged to write music and absorb a great deal of information, diving into composing for video games and learning some of the advanced techniques of writing music for this exciting genre.

As both a performer and composer, Joanna Wallfisch is a master in the art of live vocal looping and plays multiple instruments including baritone ukulele, guitar, piano, and flute. Her music defies genre classification as she effortlessly imbues her songs with nuances of jazz, classical, art-song, and folk. She has worked on multiple film soundtracks and commercials, as both a vocalist, lyricist, and songwriter.

 

This masterclass is designed for composers, songwriters, and vocalists, and will be fully interactive. Participants have to be prepared to sing, discuss, and share their music.
