Agata Grabowiecka: new artistic director of the FMF!

After eighteen years at the helm of the Krakow Film Music Festival, Robert Piaskowski – co-founder, artistic director, and one of the event’s chief architects – will pass the baton to experienced culture manager Agata Grabowiecka.

„This is a moment I’ve been preparing for a long time. FMF has come of age, built a strong brand, and gained global recognition. Now it’s time for change. For me, it was natural to entrust the festival to someone who deeply understands the community that has grown around it and is capable of nurturing it. With the support of the city authorities and the Krakow Festival Office, I will hand over the reins of the FMF to an experienced cultural manager who has played a key role in building this success over the years. Agata Grabowiecka not only brings the necessary knowledge and experience but also enjoys the trust and respect of the international industry — making this transition a natural step and ensuring the festival’s bright future” – emphasises Robert Piaskowski.

Agata Grabowiecka will take over the festival helm starting in June this year. She is a cultural manager with experience in the implementation of various music projects in Poland and abroad. Since 2009, she has worked for the Krakow Festival Office, where she headed the team responsible for the programming of music Events. She has been the director of the Orchestra of the Capital Royal City of Krakow Sinfonietta Cracovia since 2021. Already in her first term, she introduced new concert formats, including those that combine classical and film music.

„The FMF is a very complex and demanding endeavour – I have found this out by working on the festival for many years. During this time, I have been involved in the co-creation of the programme, the coordination of project work, the development of partnerships, negotiations, booking, etc. In my work on the 19th edition, I will draw on these experiences while looking for new solutions. I want to preserve the identity of the FMF, but I also want the festival to grow from year to year. We now have a unique opportunity to strengthen Krakow’s position as the world’s film music capital.” says Agata Grabowiecka.
