OFFICIAL STATEMENT BY THE CREATORS AND DIRECTORS OF MOSMA Movie Score Málaga

To the media, professionals within the film and music industries, and the general public:

Through this statement, David Doncel, creator and Artistic Director of the festival, and Arturo Díez Boscovich, Musical Director, wish to bring the following resolution to the attention of the public, film music enthusiasts and members of the audiovisual industry:

Following the recent official announcement by the management of the Málaga Film Festival regarding the launch of the MOSMA project under the new name “MOSMA Reloaded”, to be held at the Sohrlin venue under its own management, we feel compelled to break our silence after months of complete institutional opacity.

We are now witnessing the culmination of an attempt to appropriate a project created by others. The use of the original brand under the euphemism “Reloaded” reveals an effort to disguise the appropriation of a festival while dispensing with those originally responsible for its creation and development.

In light of this situation, we wish to state the following:

  1. Origin and history of the project

MOSMA was not originally conceived as an institutional initiative. In 2016, David Doncel independently conceived, designed and structured the format, subsequently presenting it to the Málaga Film Festival and involving Arturo Díez Boscovich from the very outset to lead its musical direction.

This partnership brought with it extensive and well-established experience, having previously created and successfully developed the prestigious Úbeda and Córdoba film music festivals, both of which achieved considerable international recognition.

Throughout ten editions in Málaga, this team has shaped MOSMA’s narrative and programming, attracted leading Hollywood guests and established the festival’s distinctive hallmark of quality.

  1. Conditions proposed for the project’s continuation

Our initial intention was never to leave MOSMA, but rather to guarantee its viability under minimum professional and sustainable conditions in the face of increasingly limited resources.

The response from the management of the Málaga Film Festival to our proposals was not to move towards a professional framework, but instead to propose dismantling the festival format and replacing it with a series of isolated concerts held throughout the year.

Furthermore, David Doncel was offered the opportunity to collaborate individually in occasional activities, while completely excluding Arturo Díez Boscovich and the team that had built the festival.

This proposal was unacceptable, as it directly undermined the collective and coordinated nature that lies at the heart of the project.

  1. Complete disassociation and termination of responsibility

We hereby announce our complete disassociation from any activity, concert or management initiative carried out from this moment onwards under the name MOSMA, “MOSMA Reloaded”, or any other related variation.

None of the decisions made during this new phase will reflect the artistic vision of the festival’s creator, our musical direction, our international network of professional contacts, or the festival model developed over the past ten years.

We therefore respectfully ask members of the industry and the public not to attribute to us any responsibility for the programming or future results of this new incarnation of the brand.

  1. A brand cannot replace the people behind it

An institution may retain a name for administrative purposes, but the true value of any project comes from the people who build it.

MOSMA became an international benchmark thanks to the close relationships of personal trust that composers, conductors and representatives from around the world have maintained with us for the past two decades.

Attempting to relaunch the festival by merely changing its label, while stripping it of its artistic creator and Musical Director, is to leave it entirely without its soul.

We wish to close this chapter by expressing our deepest gratitude to the international community of music for the screen, to the musicians from the various orchestras, to the specialist media, to our collaborators, and to the loyal audience who have shared unforgettable moments with us over the past ten years.

Our passion for film music and our connection with the city of Málaga remain intact.

Administrative structures may change, but talent and professional loyalty belong to those who cultivate and develop them.

We will continue working towards new horizons where ethics and respect for creative work serve as fundamental pillars.

Málaga, 24 June 2026. SIGNED: David Doncel Barthe – Creator and Artistic Director of MOSMA / Arturo Díez Boscovich – Musical Director of MOSMA
