SoundTrack_Cologne 14 – Full program
SoundTrack_Cologne celebrates its 14th Edition from August 23rd to 27th, 2017 in Cologne (Germany), and has already published the full program, including more than 45 events.
SoundTrack_Cologne is Germany’s most popular conference of Music and Sound in Movies, TV and Games, and one of the biggest events in its category in Europe. With numerous workshops, panels and lectures by experienced composers, the congress offers inspiring input to professionals, students and music enthusiasts, altogether with networking events that provide connecting opportunities.
During the congress, “See The Sound” film program is held, showing a broad array of connecting image and sound, and bringing music films which are otherwise seldom found in the big screen.
The congress is divided mainly in three different thematic days dedicated to Games, Film & TV respectively.
GAMES - Thursday 24th of August
Games composers Gareth Coker (Ori and the Blind Forest, Minecraft, ARK Survival Evolved), Bobby Tahouri (Rise of the Tomb Raider, Medal of Honor: Warfighter) and Petri Alanko (Quantum Break, Alan Wake) will be the main guests of this day, where they will talk about their body of work, personal experiences, upcoming projects and about the peculiarities of composition for interactive game worlds. They will also be available for questions from the audience.
FILM - Friday 25th of August
Composers Lesley Barber (Manchester by the Sea), Volker Bertelmann – Hauschka (Lion), Johnny Klimek (Cloud Atlas, Babylon Berlin), Beckmann (Fack ju Göhte), Tom Stöwer (Wendy) and the 2017 SoundTrack_Cologne Lifetime Achievement Award winner, Bruce Broughton (Silverado, Tombstone) will be the main guests of this day in several conferences/panels.
On the other side, film music conductor Frank Strobel, one of the pioneers of the film in concert movement, will teach a 2h workshop about Conducting for Media Music, linked with the movie-concert that will be performed that night. The experienced conductor, arranger, producer and studio musician is artistic director and co-founder of the Europäische FilmPhilharmonie, a concert and production company for film music.
Composer Jeff Rona will also teach a film and game music masterclass for composers, where a maximum of 12 composers, that already applied for the workshop, will receive a minute-long film clip to score music drafts in a realistic time frame that will be discussed during the masterclass (Friday 25th between 9:00 am and 6:00 pm).
To complete the day, from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm, a Silent Movie Concert will be held, “Jeanne Ney – Eine Liebe” (“Jeanne Ney – One Love” – 1927) with the WDR Funkhausorchester conducted by Frank Strobel. The concert will have the original film music of Hans May, which was reconstructed by the composer Bernd Thewes.
TV- Saturday 26th of August
Main guest composers for this day are Carly Paradis (Line of Duty), Michael Price (Sherlock), Walter Mair (The Same Sky), and Halfdan E (Borgen) specialized in working for TV, ranging from horror classics to innovative shows, that will talk about team composing with its chances and challenges, their thoughts behind the compositions and many other things.
