Summer Nights 2021 – Retina, Film and Music Festival
From July 14 to August 25, 2021, the cycle ‘Retina, Film and Music Festival’ will explore the relationship between sound and image, within the festival ‘Summer Nights 2021’ of CaixaForum Barcelona.
The project invites musicians to compose a new soundtrack for a film and perform it live while the movie is projected, offering on this occasion 3 proposals: a session with French composer Olivier Arson tackling ‘The Candidate (Rodrigo Sorogoyen, 2018)’, for which he got a Goya Award for Best Original Score, another session with Catalan composer Joana Serrat reinventing ‘The Straight Story (David Lynch, 1999)’, and the last one with José Venditti performing live the original soundtrack he composed for the film ‘Dear Werner (Walking on Cinema) (2020)’.
OLIVIER ARSON – ‘THE CANDIDATE (2018)’
The composer Olivier Arson will perform his original music for ‘The Candidate’ during the screening of the film. His creations, claustrophobic and dark, drag the listener and immerse him in a flow of frenetic sensations.

JOANA SERRAT – ‘THE STRAIGHT STORY (1999)’

JOSÉ VENDITTI – ‘DEAR WERNER (WALKING ON CINEMA) (2020)’
In 1974 Werner Herzog walked from Munich to Paris in an act of faith to avoid the death of his mentor Lotte Eisner. In 2020, a young filmmaker makes the same journey following in the footsteps of the German filmmaker. This project was born from the collaboration between filmmaker Pablo Maqueda and musician and sound artist José Venditti, and the interest of both to approach the filmography of the renowned filmmaker through a personal journey, to reflect on the loneliness of cinema and the drive of creation.
José Venditti will perform live on the screening of the film his original music for Dear Werner (Walking on Cinema). In addition, the event will be presented by the director Pablo Maqueda himself.
