The Composers’ Conducting Immersion course will be a study-intensive, hands-on, three-day workshop focused on developing the comprehensive skills needed by composers to conduct confidently, clearly, and musically in recording sessions, rehearsals, and on the concert stage, led by Amy Andersson.

 

Each LIVE-COURSE participant will conduct live musicians daily and the film footage, with personal video feedback, will be reviewed in class.

August 6-8, 2022 – ORCHESTRAL MOCKUP PRODUCTION with Òscar Senén

Composers these days need to be able to create realistic mockups for their projects, regardless of these being recorded with real players or not: These audio demos are what director/producer will listen to, in order to make an idea of what the final score will sound like. And in the cases when it’s not possible to record with real players, that mockup will end up in the final dub, so every detail of the actual “performance” of the composer counts. In this course students will go through all the steps with Òscar Senén.

Conrad Pope & Nan Schwartz will provide in this 6-day course a priceless insider’s look at the orchestration & arranging of film music.  From basic instrumentation to complete execution of a score, every step of writing professionally for an orchestra in today’s film world will be addressed. The course will include an overview of all the instruments and instrumental families of today’s orchestra, their characteristics, their strong and weak points, and how to use them effectively in an orchestration. Also determining the orchestra size for particular genres of scores as well as adapting to budgetary constraints will be discussed.

August 17-22, 2022 – PROFESSIONAL LIVE RECORDING with Conrad Pope & Dimitrie J. Leivici

Record your music LIVE with a 40-piece orchestra under the guidance of iconic orchestrator Conrad Pope, experienced studio musician & concertmaster Dimitrie J. Leivici, and the technical team of MG Studios Vienna.

 

HMW recording sessions will take place in the large concert hall of the Convention and Conference Center Baden (Casino Baden) as a live event.

 

There will be several preparatory online meetings before the course begins.

 

Compositions should not exceed the duration of 2 minutes. If longer ones are planned, the purchase of additional recording time by the participant will be required.

 

All compositions have to be prepared for a 40-piece orchestra and will be recorded to click. Participants can conduct their own pieces. An experienced conductor will be on standby should the participant decide to follow the recording process from the engineering booth.
