Vote in the Polish Soundtrack of the Year contest!

Which of the 2023 Polish films and TV series stood out with the most original music? Voting has just begun. The decisions of the audience and the Award Academy will be announced on May 25 at the Film Music Festival in Krakow.

The Polish Soundtrack of the Year Award will be given for the sixth time. Ten titles have been selected from among the 2023 films and series, in which the music perfectly harmonizes with the image and represents the highest artistic level. The nominations were decided by the program team of the Film Music Festival in Krakow. Then the international Award Academy, which includes cultural journalists and representatives of the domestic and foreign industry and music and film institutions, will select the winner or winners of the Grand Prize. At the same time (until May 21) voting is underway, in which all film music lovers can participate through a form on the website. Based on its results, the Audience Award will be given.

The list of nominated titles covers a wide spectrum of cinematography, from intimate auteur film through blockbusters to popular series. «In last year’s productions one can hear the dominance of folk music and folklore in the broadest sense. There were also soundtracks using various progressive solutions, including avant-garde influences, noise sounds or experimental jazz. Polish film music also has no shortage of bold experiments combining sometimes very distant worlds, such as baroque and electronica. The competition for the best FMF soundtrack illustrates this extraordinary stylistic and genre diversity every year, and since this time, too, we are dealing with artists who are already well established in the audiovisual market, it is difficult to predict the outcome of the competition. Every year the verdicts of the Academy and the audience are a surprise,» says Robert Piaskowski, artistic director of the FMF and also chairman of the Academy of the Polish Soundtrack of the Year Award.

The results of the audience vote and the Academy’s deliberations will be announced on May 25 during the FMF’s Polish Gala Concert: Modern Roots. The event’s program reflects one of the most important trends in contemporary Polish culture, which is the search for inspiration in the Slavic folk tradition. At the ICE Krakow Congress Center, we will hear motifs from the films Chłopi and Znachor, as well as the TV series 1670 and the game Blacktail, among others. Tickets for the concert are available on the KBF platform: TICKETS.

The winner of the main competition will receive a statuette, the opportunity to perform his music at the next FMF in 2025, and a prize donated by the Wojas brand, which has become the Main Sponsor of the Polish Soundtrack of the Year Award. Partners of the Audience Award are Massive Music and Shootme.
