Middleburg Film Festival 2024 – Mychael Danna

The Middleburg Film Festival has celebrated the art of film music since its first edition, by honoring a film composer with a “Distinguished Composer Award” and a live performance of his/her works (read more).

 

On its 12th edition (Oct 17-20, 2024), the honoree will be Mychael Danna whose music will be performed in concert on Sunday, October 20th by a sixty-piece orchestra and choir conducted by Kim Kluge and accompanied by movie clips, and a conversation with Danna about his creative process.

A beloved signature event of the festival is our LIVE CONCERT honoring a DISTINGUISHED FILM COMPOSER. This year, we’re delighted to feature the scores of Academy Award winning composer, MYCHAEL DANNA.

Some of Danna’s most memorable scores will be performed by a 60-piece orchestra and choir, led by music director and conductor Kim Kluge and accompanied by movie clips and a conversation with Danna about his creative process.

Danna is known for blending non-Western traditions with orchestral and electronic music. He won the Academy Award and Golden Globe for his transcultural score for Ang Lee’s Life of Pi and has scored such films as The Ice StormMoneyballCapoteMonsoon WeddingLittle Miss Sunshine500 Days of Summer.

The festival will also celebrate the conference “Creative Process Panel – MUSIC IN FILM” on Friday, October 18th, where seven of the world’s most accomplished and talent composers and songwriters will share film clips of their work and talk about their creative process in crafting songs and scores. Participants include Diane Warren, Charles Fox, Mychael Danna, Taura Stinson, Clement Ducol & Camille, and Lesley Barber.
