Throughout the month of October, the Basque National Orchestra under the baton of the French conductress Mélanie Lévy-Thibaut, will give three concerts to accompany the screening of the film ‘The New Babylon’: two in Bilbao and one in Donostia-San Sebastian.

The film, released in 1929 and directed by Grigori Kozintsev and Leonid Trauberg, is considered a classic of Russian cinematography and is a clear exponent of the propaganda of that era. The soundtrack was composed by Dimitri Shostakovich, at the age of 23, being this his first work for cinema.

The film will have Spanish subtitles and comes from the archive of the European Film Philharmonic Institute, with the music being the version arranged and re-constructed by director Frank Strobel.
