3rd edition of the Ciné-Notes festival dedicated to ‘Monsters and Creatures’

After a successful 1st edition in 2018 (read more) and 2nd edition in 2019 (read more), the French festival Ciné-Notes will celebrate the 3rd edition next month in Bordeaux (France), from Wednesday, 18th till Sunday 28th of March, 2020.

 

This 3rd edition will be dedicated to “Monsters and Creatures” having two symphonic concerts performed by the Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine (ONBA) conducted by Diego Navarro, an exceptional live to picture concert of Steven Spielberg’s ‘E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial’ conducted by Ernst Van Tiel, a Jazz concert with Jean-Michel Bernard and Friends dedicated to the music of Jerry Goldsmith, plus conferences and film screenings with musical introduction. The festival will have film director Jean-Jacques Annaud as a guest of honor.

Wednesday 18/3/2020 @ 20:00h – Jean-Michel Bernard and Friends Play Jerry Goldsmith

Film composer Jean-Michel Bernard has arranged and will perform with a jazz sextet Jerry Goldsmith’s greatest themes (Alien, Star Trek, Chinatown, Gremlins…).

 

The program will include the following pieces: Rudy, Fierce creatures of the zoo, A patch of blue, Chinatown, Flying dreams (songs), The Wild River (song), Rambo – First Blood, The Omen, The piper dreams (songs), Our man flint Suite, The man form U.N.C.L.E, The Russian house, Poltergeist, Gremlins, Star Trek, Basic Instinct and Papillon (Song).

Thursday 19 and Friday 20/3/2020 @ 20:00h – Monstres et Creatures

Symphonic concert performed by the Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine (ONBA) conducted by Diego Navarro, at the Auditorium de Bordeaux. The concert on Thursday 19th, will be for the first time, broadcast live.

Thursday 26/3/2020 @ 18h – Conference – Jerry Goldsmith

Conference on Jerry Goldsmith’s music and career, a composer who marked the history of cinema (Chinatown, Alien, Star Trek …), with Robert Townson, Goldsmith’s music producer (and former vice-director of the Varèse-Sarabande label), and Gérard Dastugue, lecturer at the University of Toulouse.

Film composer Alex Jaffray will talk about the techniques used to create anxiety and fear on movies with music, in an interactive conference with projections.

Saturday 28/3/2020 @ 21h – Thomas Enhco

Composer Thomas Enhco will perform a set of improvisations around the theme of this new edition ‘Monsters and creatures’. For this concert, he will borrow melodies from John Williams, Wojciech Kilar, Georges Auric, Joe Hisaishi or Howard Shore… and will make characters like Dracula, Totoro, Lord of the Rings or Hobbits, coexist in his piano.

Special film projections

Emblematic films, linked to the theme “Monsters and Creatures”, will be screened preceded by an introduction to the music of the movie, with arrangements by Jean-Michel Bernard, and played in front of the screen by the musicians of the association ‘Les Caprices de Marianne’.
