8th edition of FILMIC festival with Jocelyn Pook and Hauschka

The 8th edition of FILMIC festival is being held in Bristol (UK) from March 3rd till April 28th, 2019, to celebrate the creative connections between film and music, with screenings, concerts, and special events at the venues Watershed, St George’s Bristol and Colston Hall.

 

This year the program will explore themes of minimalism, diverse composition, and specially commissioned new shows, where we could highlight:

Today Saturday, March 16 at 14:00h the movie ‘The Wife’ will be screened at the Watershed, with an introduction from the film’s composer Jocelyn Pook.

Later today, Saturday, March 16 at 19:30h the Jocelyn Pook Ensemble formed by 9 musicians, will perform a concert entitled ‘Music for Film and Voices’ at St George’s Bristol, featuring scores composed by Jocelyn Pook such as her music from Golden Globe winner movie The Wife, Stanley Kubrick’s final film Eyes Wide Shut, and Netflix’s true crime hit The Staircase.

On Thursday, April 11 at 20h, composer and pianist Hauschka (Volker Bertelmann) will offer a solo piano concert at St George’s Bristol, featuring music from his latest Sony Classical album A Different Forest. This concert will be followed by a free VJ set in the venue Café Bar with DJ Cheeba.

FIlmic 2019 - Hauschka

 

On Wednesday, April 24 at 19:30h, the movie ‘E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial in Concert’ will be presented at the Bristol Hippodrome on the big screen, accompanied by a performance from a live orchestra. This will complement composer John Williams’ early work that will be revisited during the festival, screening movies such as: Family Plot (1976), The Long Goodbye (1973), How to Steal a Million (1966) or The Killers (1964).
