Alan Menken will receive Johnny Mercer Award

It has been announced this week that the prestigious composer Alan Menken will receive the Johnny Mercer Award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame, which will be presented during the 48th Annual Induction and Awards Dinner, to be held on Thursday, June 15th at the Marriot Marquis Hotel in New York.

 

The Johhny Mercer Award is exclusively reserved for a songwriter or songwriting team who has already been inducted in a prior year, and whose body of work is of such high quality and impact, that it upholds the gold standard set by the legendary lyricist, songwriter and singer Johnny Mercer.

 

Alan Menken has won 8 Oscars (4 for best soundtrack and 4 for best original song), 11 Grammys and 7 Golden Globes among many other awards, and is a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame since 2008.
