Festival Musimagem Brasil 2019 – Program

The Festival Musimagem Brasil, organized by the Brazilian Association of Composers of Music for Audiovisual, will celebrate its 5th edition from November 21 to 24, 2019 in Belo Horizonte (Minas Gerais, Brazil).

 

During the festival, American composer Christopher Young and Brazilian composer Edino Krieger will be the recipients of the Remo Usai Career Award (Remo Usai is 91-year-old a famous Brazilian composer who is retired now, and who was Miklós Rózsa’s pupil). This will be the first time that this career award is given to a non-Brazilian composer.

 

SoundTrackFest has collaborated with Festival Musimagem Brasil during 2019, to build up this 5th edition, and Gorka Oteiza, founder and director of SoundTrackFest, will attend the festival, where he will be part of a panel/masterclass, together with renowned record & concert producer, Robert Townson, founder of Robert Townson Productions.

 

This is the final and complete program of the festival, being all the activities held at the CCBB (Cultural Center of Banco do Brasil):

THURSDAY – 21/11/2019

  • 17:30h – 19:30h – EXHIBITION – Playing at the Cine Odeon-RJ [Festival Opening]. This multimedia exhibition with piano, will make possible for the audience to interact by pressing the keys of the instrument, thus hearing short excerpts of tracks, to create a unique sound sequence. This exhibition is a tribute to Cine Odeon-RJ, where composer Ernesto Nazareth (1863-1934) played several times, cheering up the audience at the beginning of each film session. The character of Ernesto Nazareth will be portrayed by actor Davidson Rocha, responsible for welcoming and guiding the visitors of the Festival. Conception and artistic direction of the exhibition: Tim Rescala.

 

  • 19:30h – 21:00h – CONCERT – Gala Concert with the Ouro Preto Orchestra conducted by Tim Rescala. The Ouro Preto Orchestra will perform the original music from the international guest Christopher Young, having in the program music from movies such as Spider Man 3, Invaders from Mars, Sweet November, and also music from Brazilian composers of for movies such as ‘Elis’, among others.

FRIDAY – 22/11/2019

 

  • 10-12h & 14-19h – EXHIBITION – Playing at the Cine Odeon-RJ

 

  • 10:00 – 12:00h – DEBATE – Education, capacity building and enhancement of professionals in the regional audiovisual markets. With Felipe Radicetti and Mauricio Domene, moderated by Zeh Netto (President of Musimagem).

 

  • 14:00h – 17:00h – WORKSHOP – Workshop for Young People – Make your Soundtrack live. Young people will be able to play or sing live to the projection of an animation movie from the Festival Animamundi, with the participation of the special guest Mauricio Maas, from Barbatuques group, who has been part of soundtracks from movies like Rio 2 and Boy and the World (O Menino eo mundo). Facilitators: Zeh Netto, Monique Aragão, Fernando Aranha, and Mauricio Maas.

 

  • 15:00h – 16:30h – WORKSHOP – Open Workshop: Choir on the Scene. The participants can enjoy the experience of producing, with their voices, different soundtracks for a scene. Facilitators: Monique Aragão, Mauro Perelmann, Mauricio Maas.

 

  • 17:00h – 19:00h – DEBATE – The international market of soundtracks: the film music in Hollywood and in Europe. Robert Townson – USA (Vice-president of the soundtrack label Varèse Sarabande for more than 30 years and actually the president of Robert Townson Productions) and Gorka OteizaSpain (founder and director of SoundTrackFest, one of the most accessed sites worldwide about soundtracks). Moderator: João Batista Melo.

 

  • 19:30h – MASTERCLASS – Conference with Christopher Young. Honored in this 5th edition of the festival, Christopher Young is a reputed American composer, creator of soundtracks for movies like Spider Man 3, Swordfish, Ghost Rider, A Nightmare in Elm Street 2, Invaders from Mars, Sweet November or The Shipping News, among many others. Nominated for the Golden Globe Award, he was honored with the prestigious Richard Kirk award at the BMI Film and TV Awards in 2008.

SATURDAY – 23/11/2019

 

  • 10-12h & 14-19h – EXHIBITION – Playing at the Cine Odeon-RJ

 

  • 10:00h – 12:00h – WORKSHOP – Workshop for composers with Christopher Young – Workshop in English for composers, with the international guest Christopher Young (USA).

 

  • 10:00h – 12:00h – EXHIBITION – Children Musimagem – Movies for children. Soundtracks of kid-oriented movies will be commented on by composers.

 

  • 11:00h – 13:00h – WORKSHOP – Workshop for Young People – Make your Soundtrack live.

 

  • 14:00h – 15:30h – WORKSHOP – Production flow chart for Soundtracks – The composer Alexandre Guerra presents the tool – CUEDB (Data Base de Cues online) – that he has used in projects he has done for HBO channel.

 

  • 16:00 – 17:30h – DEBATE – Soundtracks and Social Projects at the Minas Gerais market – How can social projects use soundtracks as a career and social transformation tools? Speakers: Felipe Radicetti, Ricardo Petracca, Helder Quiroga, Vitor Santana, and Barral Lima.

 

  • 18:00 – 18:30h – CONCERT – The Academia Orquestra Ouro Preto will perform soundtracks at the CCBB courtyard.

 

  • 19:30 – 21:00h – CONCERT – Concert Musimagem Brasil and Remo Usai Award Ceremony – Concert with pieces performed by Musimagem Brasil Association’s composers. Remo Usai Award Ceremony with honored composers Edino Krieger and Christopher Young. Musicians and composers that will perform at the concert: Beto Villares, Tim Rescala, Monique Aragão, Alexandre Guerra, Marcelo Guima, Alberto Rosenblit, and Sergio Canedo.

SUNDAY – 24/11/2019

 

  • 10-12h & 14-19h – EXHIBITION – Playing at the Cine Odeon-RJ

 

  • 10:00 – 12:00h – WORKSHOP – Open Workshop: Putting together the music of a scene – Workshop of musical creation for images. The public will choose music, noises, and background sounds, like pads and effects, to give sound to scenes. In the end, there will be an election to choose the winner who will receive an award. Facilitator: Zeh Netto – Requirements: All participants will need to have a tablet with them.

 

  • 11:00h – 13:00h – EXHIBITION – Children Musimagem – Movies for children. Soundtracks of kid-oriented movies will be commented on by composers.

 

  • 14:00 – 15:00h – WORKSHOP – What is the Audiovisual Music useful for? – The composer Alberto Rosenblit will request that people lie down on the floor to listen to a soundtrack. What does it evoque? What do you feel when you listen to it? What images came to your mind? Interactive workshop. Facilitator: Alberto Rosenblit.

 

  • 15:30 – 17:00h – CONFERENCE – How to make the sound of a film? – The sound designer and Pro Tools instructor, Fernando Aranha, presents the step by step process on how to do the sound for a movie and the importance of the soundtrack, which is formed by “music, dialogues, and effects”. Basic and narrative principles will be discussed using a real section of Pro Tools. Speaker: Fernando Aranha.

 

  • 17:00h – 18:30h – WORKSHOP – Is there a perfect marriage between music and image? – Presentation of 10 advertising films without sound and 10 music tracks without the video. The soundtracks are original, but the participants will need to combine the soundtracks with the videos. Facilitators: Zeh Netto and Marcelo Guima.

 

  • 19:30 – 20:30h – CONFERENCE – Famous Soundtracks – The conference will talk about the famous soundtracks of John Williams, like Star Wars, Harry Potter, and Brazilian films like Bingo and successful soap operas. Do you want to know more about the famous soundtracks that you always liked and don’t know how and why they were made? Experts will take in detail about these soundtracks that charmed generations. Speakers: Leandro Gardini, Beto Villares, and Alberto Rosenblit.
