Film Fest Gent & World Soundtrack Awards – Videodroom 2024

As a prelude to World Soundtrack Awards (24th ed – Oct 15-17, 2024 – read more), VIDEODROOM is the annual creative dream date between Film Fest Gent (51st ed – Oct 9-20, 2024) and Kunstencentrum VIERNULVIER: a quirky mix of eclectic music and ditto cult cinema. Every year a selection of obscure films receives a newly composed soundtrack. VIDEODROOM 2024 will again be an exciting alternative trip through the nights of Film Fest Gent

BL!NDMAN x ‘Donnie Darko’ – Thu 10/10/2024 – 20h

VIDEODROOM 2024 kicks off with a bang. The renowned saxophone quartet BL!NDMAN performs their new soundtrack to arguably the biggest cult film of the early 2000s: Donnie Darko. Venue: De Vooruit – Theaterzaal.

KMRU x ‘Night of the Living Dead’ – Fri 11/10/2024 – 20h

Zombie classic Night of the Living Dead (1968) by George A. Romero is immortal, that’s for sure, but this screening is extra special, thanks to the exclusive live soundtrack by Kenyan sound artist KMRU. Venue: De Vooruit – Theaterzaal.

Johannes is Zijn Naam x ‘Rubens’ – Sat 12/10/2024 – 20h

Henri Storck’s 1948 docu about the work of Pieter Paul Rubens is a true lesson in art history. Johannes is Zijn Naam (aka Johannes Verschaeve of The Van Jets) makes the film collide and merge with his dreamy avant-pop music. Venue: De Vooruit – Theaterzaal.

Felicia Atkinson x ‘Les yeux sans visage’ – Sun 13/10/2024 – 20h

Les yeux sans visage or Eyes Without a Face is a 1960 French horror classic directed by George Franju. Controversial from the moment it premiered, the film pushed the boundaries of what was considered acceptable by audiences and critics. French electro-acoustic composer and visual artist Félicia Atkinson performs a layered composition which perfectly matches the atmosphere of the cult classic. Oren Ambarchi x ‘Dragon’s Return’ – Tue 15/10/2024 – 20h

Dragon’s Return is a well-kept secret masterpiece of Slovak cinema. In collaboration with the Slovak Film Institute, this spectacular drama is presented in VIDEODROOM 2024 with a new soundtrack written and performed live by avant-garde composer/guitarist Oren Ambarchi. Mattias De Craene x ‘The Holy Mountain’ – Wed 16/10/2024 – 20h

In 1973, Chilean director Alejandro Jodorowsky shocked the Cannes film festival with the premiere of his film The Holy Mountain. More than fifty years later, Belgian saxophonist Matthias De Craene sells his soul to this surrealist masterpiece. Venue: De Vooruit – Theaterzaal.

Mariam Rezaei & Farida Amadou x ‘Blood Tea and Red String’ – Thu 17/10/2024 – 20h

VIDEODROOM delves into the wondrous world of nightmares with a unique screening of the bizarre stop-motion masterpiece Blood Tea and Red String (2006), accompanied by a new soundtrack from turntablist Mariam Rezaei and bassist/composer Farida Amadou. Venue: De Koer.

Matteo Myderwyk x ‘Good Time’ – Fri 18/10/2024 – 20h

Ready for a good time? Dutch composer and classical pianist Matteo Myderwyk presents a new score for Good Time, the acclaimed 2017 neo-noir film that marked the breakthrough of the Safdie Brothers (Uncut Gems). Venue: De Vooruit – Theaterzaal.

Porcelain id x ‘Purple Rain’ – Sat 19/10/2024 – 20h

Film Fest Gent and VIERNULVIER close the festival and VIDEODROOM with a tribute to Purple Rain. This year marks exactly forty years since Prince became a global superstar with this rock & roll fable, in which he also played the lead role. Porcelain id performs musical reinterpretations of the iconic soundtrack. Venue: De Vooruit – Theaterzaal.
