Los Angeles Live Score Film Festival 2018
The Los Angeles Live Score Film Festival will celebrate this weekend its 5th edition, with a concert to be held on Saturday 21st of July at the Barnsdall Gallery Theatre in Los Angeles (California, USA).
As every year, the Los Angeles Live Score Film Festival features indie and independent short films with original scores performed live-to-picture. The 2018 festival is presented by Helix Collective in association with the Academy of Scoring Arts, having films curated by faculty at the New York Film Academy, the L.A. Film School and Columbia College, Hollywood.
This is the list of the selected 10 short films, which will have their soundtracks performed live on the concert:
These up-and-coming filmmakers were selected from among hundreds of applicants, and the festival offered them an opportunity to connect with experienced film composers, to learn how to make the most out of their collaboration. This artistic workshop then culminates on the day of the festival, when the films are screened with a live performance of the score by the recording and performance ensemble, Helix Collective conducted by Phil Popham.
Participating in this year’s live score-to-screen festival is a diverse line-up of composers for film, television, and video games from all around the world, having composers who started out in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Canada, Italy or United States, making their way to Los Angeles to work in media music. Awards for Best Picture and Best Musical Score are presented at the end of the festival.
The scheduled planning for the event is as follows:
- 6:00 pm – Panel with filmmakers and composers hosted by Brian Ralston of SCOREcast
- 7:30-9:00 pm – Screening with live performance of the scores by Helix Collective
- 9:00-10:00 pm – Reception
