Master in Technologies in Composition of Soundtracks and Music for Videogames 2021-2022

In less than a month begins the “Master of Technologies in Composition of Soundtracks and Music for Videogames/Máster de Tecnologías en la Composición de Bandas Sonoras y Música para Videojuegos” organized by the Faculty of Computer Science of the Complutense University of Madrid – UCM, and there are still places available to sign up.

 

Directed by Dr. Federico Peinado, Professor at the Faculty of Computer Science, and Dr. Alejandro Román, Composer and Professor at the Royal Conservatory of Music of Madrid, the first edition of this course is structured in six modules, with the first module starting on October 1, 2021 and the sixth module scheduled to finish on June 26, 2022.

 

The master will be online, in Spanish, in the evening hours from 18h to 21h, and with the possibility of accessing the recorded classes at any time during the course.

TECAHERS

All faculty members are specifically specialized in the subjects they teach, 75% of them being external, while the rest belong to the UCM.

 

Among the external faculty there are relevant names in the national and international scene such as film composers Federico Jusid, Roque Baños, Sergio Moure de Oteyza, Xavi Capellas, Alejandro Román, Ramón Paús or Luis Ivars; TV composers, Darío Palomo; advertising composers, José Battaglio. And composers specialized in the creation of soundtracks for videogames such as Juan José Molina, Manuel López or Pablo Rodríguez-Tembleco.

 

The theoretical subjects include professors with PhDs specializing in virtual reality (Alberto García), video game narrative and design (Federico Peinado), cinematographic techniques (Francisco Reyes), history of film music (Teresa Fraile), score analysis (Javier Cámara), etc. And the technical and technological subjects include subjects such as instrumentation and orchestration (Claudio Ianni), digital audio analysis (Ana Llorens), audio implementation in video games (Jaime Sánchez), demo production (Guillermo Pita), digital audio production (Francisco Cuadrado), audio and MIDI programming in DAW’s (Miguel Gómez-Zamalloa).

 

The master is supported by Musimagen (Asociación de Compositores de Música para Audiovisual – Association of Music Composers for the Audiovisual).

It will be divided into 6 modules, with 10 ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) each:

  • Módulo 1 – TÉCNICAS Y TECNOLOGÍA PARA LA COMPOSICIÓN VISUAL I: VIDEOARTE Y PUBLICIDAD – 10 ECTS – Del 1 al 31 de octubre
  • Módulo 2: TÉCNICAS Y TECNOLOGÍA PARA LA COMPOSICIÓN VISUAL II ANIMACIÓN Y DOCUMENTAL – 10 ECTS – Del 1 de noviembre al 5 de diciembre
  • Módulo 3: COMPOSICIÓN NARRATIVA I (DRAMA/THRILLER) 10 ECTS – Del 6 de diciembre al 30 de enero
  • Módulo 4: COMPOSICIÓN NARRATIVA II (COMEDIA / AVENTURAS) 10 ECTS – Del 1 de febrero al 6 de marzo
  • Módulo 5: TÉCNICAS Y TECNOLOGÍA PARA LA COMPOSICIÓN MULTIMEDIA (VIDEOJUEGOS Y REALIDAD VIRTUAL) – 10 ECTS – 7 de marzo – 10 de abril – 22 de mayo

RECORDING OF PROJECTS

The Master has the collaboration of two symphony orchestras for the recording of the students’ composition projects: The Orquesta Sinfónica de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid, conducted by José Sanchís, which will record the TFM projects, and the Orquesta Sinfónica de la Facultad de Geografía e Historia de la UCM, conducted by Marta Rodríguez Cuervo, which will record a selection of the best works written by the students during the first four-month period of the Master.

TARGET AUDIENCE

It is aimed at any type of degree, provided that in the entrance exam the applicant demonstrates sufficient musical and technical knowledge to be able to successfully complete the studies.

 

Initially, the target audience of the master’s degree is the following groups:

  • Composers
  • Musicians with knowledge in musical composition
  • Graduates in Music Composition, Computer Engineering, Information and Communication Sciences, Musicology, and other careers with knowledge in music composition.

REGISTRATION PROCESS AND FEES

It will be necessary to pre-register and be selected in order to access the master’s degree course.

 

Due to the volume of applicants and the limited number of places for the course, the selection is defined according to the following criteria: type of degree (priority is given to students with degrees related to musical creation, music in general and audiovisual media); creativity and degree of originality; technical mastery.

 

To access to study this UCM Degree it is necessary to formalize a Pre-registration before September 20. From 20/09/2021 to 01/10/2021 the final selection of students who will form the class list will be made.

 

The pre-registration fee for the Master is 40€, the registration fee is 720€ and the Master’s payment is 4.080€. In total, the Master costs 4.840€.
