The music of the worlds of Stephen King, Tarantino and Almodovar protagonist in FIMUCITÉ 11

Last Friday the full schedule of the 11th edition of the International Film Music Festival of Tenerife (FIMUCITÉ) was presented in a press conference, where in addition to the 2 concerts already announced previously (see news-1 and news-2), 5 more special concerts were added.

 

Three of these concerts will be dedicated to the music of the complex and interesting worlds of Stephen King, Quentin Tarantino and Pedro Almodovar, demonstrating that FIMUCITÉ bets once again on producing differentiating concerts, in a varied and high quality programming.

 

The additions to the program are the following:

TARANTINO UNCHAINED – SATURDAY 23rd of SEPTEMBER

The concert Tarantino Unchained will arrive Saturday 23rd of September in a double session at 7:00 p.m. and 10 p.m. by The Pop Culture Band, responsible for FIMUCITÉ’s previous successful concerts “Back to the 80s”, “Back to the 90s” and “That ’70s Show”.

The program will include themes from films Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Jackie Brown, Kill Bill Vol.1 and Vol.2 and The Hateful Eight among others.

The Canary Islands The Pop Culture Band led by Gonzalo de Araoz (guitar) includes the musicians Francis Díaz (guitar), Julio Moreno (bass), Javier Guerrero (drums), Jeremías Martín (keyboards), Julián Díaz (trumpet), Norberto Arteaga (sax) and Cristo Delgado (trombone).

The concert will take place at the Leal Theater in La Laguna, and the tickets, which will soon be on sale, will have a single price of € 15.

ALL ABOUT ALMODOVAR – SUNDAY 24th of SEPTEMBER

Canary Island artist Esther Ovejero will put her voice to All About Almodovar concert with a collection of songs from the filmmaker’s movies, which will take the audience to his particular universe. This selection includes Carlos Gardel’s Tango from “Volver”, the bolero “Un Año de Amor” and the version of “Quizás, Quizás, Quizás” featured in “The Bad Education” or “La Bien Pagá” among others.

Esther Ovejero will be accompanied on stage by Francis Hernández (keyboards and piano), Roberto Amor (drums and percussion), Pancho Delgado (guitar and strings) and Carlos Perdomo (double bass and electric bass).

The concert will take place at the Leal Theater in La Laguna, Sunday 24th of September at 7:00 p.m. and tickets with a price of € 10 will soon be on sale.

MUSIC FOR SPANISH CINEMA – WEDNESDAY 27th of SEPTEMBER

The Symphonic Band from the Conservatory of Music of Santa Cruz de Tenerife will be conducted by both José Toledo and Ramón García i Soler (guest conductor invited for the occasion), offering a concert dedicated to some of the music created for Spanish films, in a double session; morning for scholars and night at 8:00 p.m. for general public.

The program will include music from films such as Welcome Mr. Marshall, Captain Thunder and the Holy Grail or Capture the flag, in an event that has the collaboration of Musimagen (Spanish Association of Composers of Music for Audiovisual Media).

The concert will be held at the Guimerá Theater and tickets with a price of € 10 will go on sale soon.

MUSIC FROM EPIC HOLLYWOOD MOVIES – THURSDAY 28th of SEPTEMBER

FIMUCITÉ’s Young Orchestra, formed by students from Advanced Conservatory of Music of the Canary Islands (ACM) and Professional Conservatory of Music of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (PCM), will offer on September 28th a concert focusing on Hollywood’s best epic cinema music. This time there will also be a show available for scholars in the morning, as well as one for the general public that will take place at 8:00 p.m.

The program will include music from Ben-Hur, El Cid, Quo Vadis, Gladiator and Braveheart, thanks to the collaboration of the prestigious label Tadlow Music. In addition, this concert will feature the participation of the Krakow Film Music Festival in the presentation of works by Polish authors.

The concert will be held at the Guimerá Theater and tickets with a price of € 10 will go on sale soon.

STEPHEN KING’s NIGHT GALLERY – SATURDAY 30th of SEPTEMBER

The main event of the festival will come from the hand of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife and the Choir of White Voices from the Conservatory of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, that will perform the 30th of September at 7:00 p.m. in Auditorio de Tenerife “Adán Martín”, the soundtracks of a collection of the best cinematographic adaptations of Stephen King’s novels

Conducted by the director of FIMUCITÉ, Diego Navarro, this repertoire will include themes from scores by Pino Donaggio’s Carrie, Thomas Newman’s The Shawshank Redemption (which obtained an Academy Award Nomination in 1995) and The Green Mile. Richard Bellis, composer of the tv-miniseries “It”, will also attend to present a world premiere of his work.

Other absolute premieres for this concert will be Mychael Danna’s Hearts in Atlantis, Elliot Goldenthal’s Pet Sematary and Phillip Glass’ Secret Window among others. Also the highly anticipated summer film premieres It and The Dark Tower will also be performed in the concert.

FIMUCITÉ FILM SCORING ACADEMY

And to finish this long news, we don’t want to forget about the celebration of the second edition of FIMUCITÉ Film Scoring Academy (FIMUCITÉ Academy for Audiovisual Composers), aimed at students and professionals interested in specialized training.

This year’s program includes a workshop focused on musical creation for videogames by Craig Stuart Garfinkle and Eimear Noone; a Sound Engineering workshop in recording sessions by James Fitzpatrick; and master classes by Richard Bellis (“Temp Tracks: Resist or Surrender“) and Matthijs Kieboom (“Creating soundtracks with small budgets”).

All lessons are free of charge and will take place along the week of the Festival at the Professional Conservatory of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. In addition, this year, the Professional Conservatory will be involved in the certification, providing the Film Scoring Academy’s diplomas.
