Transatlantyk Festival 2020 – Gala and opening concert
The Transatlantyk festival, created and directed by the composer Jan A.P. Kaczmarek, is celebrating its 10th edition from October 1 to 8, 2020 in Katowice (Poland), with a mix of in-person and online events.
On Thursday, October 1st at 19:00h, the opening gala of the festival took place with a concert entitled “The best of Jan A.P. Kaczmarek” performed by the NOSPR – National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Monika Wolińska, and with the participation of the soprano Iwona Sobotka.
The concert included the pieces Emigra – Symfonia bez końca, Rhapsody Śląska, Universe – Opera Otwarta and themes composed for movies such as Total Eclipse, Washington Square, Unfaithful, Hachi: A Dog’s Tale or Finding Neverland, that granted Kaczmarek the Oscar.

Remember that the festival also includes this year the famous “Transatlantyk Instant Composition Contest”: the only instant composition contest in the world, where participants will have to score a clip from a movie on the piano in real-time, that they have never seen before.
