Film Music Prague 2019 – Conferences & masterclass program

The 8th edition of Film Music Prague festival, which starts in less than a week and will be celebrated from Friday February 1st till Monday February 4th, offering 5 concerts in total, has announced its panel/masterclass program.

 

SoundTrackFest is proud to be a partner of Film Music Prague festival, and Gorka Oteiza, founder and director of SoundTrackFest, will be moderating a panel entitled ‘Create a Better World – Goal for Film Music Festivals’ with Nikola Bojčev (director of Film Music Prague) and Robert Piaskowski (director of Krakow Film Music Festival), to talk about live music events and film music festivals that encompass them.

 

As an extra to the program that has been announced, John Powell will be interviewed by British speaker and producer Tim Burden before the concert: Stars of Hollywood: John Powell on February 1st at the Rudolfinum. Pre-concert talk will begin at 18h and a ticket to the concert will be required to access the event.

SATURDAY – FEBRUARY 2nd (12h-18h)

 

12:30 – THE SOUND OF STRANGER THINGS: KYLE DIXON & MICHAEL STEIN

Meet Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein, the composer duo behind a wonderful synth soundtrack for popular Netflix series Stranger Things. Guests: Kyle Dixon & Michael Stein, Hosted by: Chandler Poling.

 

14:00 – AGENT WANTED!

What is the role of agents in the film music industry? Why is always important for a composer to have a good agent? Maggie Rodford from the prestigious British agency Air Edel will answer these questions. Guests: Maggie Rodford & Chantelle Woodnutt from Air Edel, hosted by: Eleni Mitsiaki.

 

15:00 – CREATE A BETTER WORLD – GOAL FOR FILM MUSIC FESTIVALS

Artistic director of Film Music Prague FestivalNikola Bojčev, will speak about the position of festivals in a cultural world. He will speak about visions for the future and cooperation with festivals like Krakow Film Music Festival – the biggest film music event in the world. 16:00 – HIDDEN HEROES: ORCHESTRATORS AND ARRANGERS

Work of orchestrators and arrangers is very often underrated. But these professionals are standing behind the sound of many popular soundtracks. Orchestrators and arrangers Nikiforos Chrysoloras and Leigh Phillips will speak about challenges, inspirations, their work on music from such a legend like Jerry Goldsmith and many more. 17:00 – SOUNDTRACK AS AN ARTISTIC CHALLENGE

There is no small soundtrack. John Lunn is well-known for his music from Downton Abbey series. Alexandra Harwood composed a beautiful soundtrack for The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, directed by Mike Newell. Guests: John Lunn & Alexandra Harwood, Hosted by: Chandler Poling.

SUNDAY – FEBRUARY 3rd (11h-16h)

 

11:00 – MASTERCLASS: HARRY GREGSON-WILLIAMS

Famous Hollywood composer Harry Gregson-Williams has scored many successful movies like Kingdom of Heaven, The Martian, Narnia series or Shrek. Harry will present his composing process and will bring the audience closer to his inspirations and ideas.

 

13:00 – THE MAGICAL WORLD OF MUSIC EDITOR

World-known music editor Mark Willsher participated on the Lord of the Rings movie saga as well as on the newest Paramount project Bumblebee. He will speak about the role of the music editor as well as the challenges in tough schedules in the film industry. Guest: Mark Willsher, Hosted by: Eleni Mitsiaki.

 

14:00 – TEAMWORK

Cooperation in team – it is a light motif of the roundtable with guests of all important film professions. From composers and their agents, to music editor and orchestrators, public relations etc. All these people have their position in the process behind each movie.
