Monday – 26/9/2022 – 17:45h -19:00 h – Masterclass – Dante & Descartes

Dante and Descartes. Additions and variations in the popular imaginary with the composer Pasquale Catalano.

Does the ideal music for a film exist? At what point should the musician intervene as a composer? How has the way of composing changed with respect to the director in the almost one hundred years since the first sound films: stories and personal experiences, for a reflection on the evolution of language. Pasquale Catalano studied piano, guitar and violin, and later composition. After finishing his studies, he worked in the theater, collaborating with the Compagnia della Fortezza of Enzo Moscato and Armando Punzo. He approached the world of cinema, collaborating with the director Pappi Corsicato in his films “Libera” and “I buchi neri”. After the episodic film “I vesuviani”, in which he scored the segments “Maruzzella” and “Il diavolo in bottiglia”, with the short film “L’amore non ha confini”, Catalano began a collaboration with director Paolo Sorrentino, which continued with compositions for the films “L’uomo in più” and “Le conseguenze dell’amore”. Another long-term collaboration is with Ferzan Ozpetek (Mine Vaganti, Magnifica Presenza, Allacciate le Cinture, Napoli Velata, La Dea Fortuna). He gives lectures and seminars in cultural and musical institutions on composition and its relationship with contemporary literature and on the history of Italian music in cinema.
